My 99 Ti w/ 81k on the clock, has spent its entire life in texas, garaged and not. so needless to say my headliner is completely screwed up and sagging, im wondering how bad it looks with just the fabric removed, if i have ANY passengers its a buddy in the passenger seat and I don't know any of my buds that would even touch the headliner or contact it for any reason really... so whats it really like under the sagging (in my case) BLACK interior?! is it THAT bad? couldnt i just paint the thing? my friend with a e36 m3 just re-did hes headliner etc with red suede... looks amazing but took him a week of work and lots of cash... i just really wanna have NO fabric and just paint it or sumthin..... i dont really want a stripped out look inside the car either. __________________ 1999 Avus blue 318ti M-tech, 5spd | | | 10-27-2008, 07:43 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2008 Location: Philadelphia Posts: 170 | sounds interesting since myn is sagging also, would like to know if anyone has done it. | | | 10-27-2008, 07:56 PM | #3 | Member Join Date: May 2008 Location: HOUSTON Posts: 36 | you know what i mean? what if i just rip it all off?! my A-pillar was black behind the liner... and doesnt look any diff from the opposite side.... wondering if it ALLLLLL looks like this if so im rippin it out and sittin back with a brew. If it is the same as the A pillars then you can go for it. Or, You can get hold of a can of spray glue as shown below http://www.studioartshop.com/acatalog/info_2743.html Try a light "dusting" of the spray after separating the loose netting then press on in a spreading motion out towards the corners. It will never sag again This also works on A pillars __________________ Vin Number decode and Retrofit Pdfs Available Free ! I would NOT recomend just ripping the headliner down because more than likely you'll have a bunch of crumbly material that will blow around and fall on you and get in your eyes if your windows are down. The board underneath is not to pretty. It looks like cardboard with a few fibers and resin on it. You might be able to paint it but i dont think you'll get a smooth look. (you'd have to do a textured paint maybe) Plus it would be easier just to cover it with a material. Its not to difficult of a task. I took my time and did it in two weekends. First saturday i pulled the headliner out and cleaned it off with a wire brush on a cordless drill. The following friday night i spray glued it with a 3M headliner glue and put the fabric on. Then the next day (Sat.) I put it all back in. I am super happy with the turnout. Plus it was cheap. Just cost of materials. Takeing out the sunroof was pretty easy too! Probably could have done it all in 2 days if i had two full days back to back to work on it. __________________ | | | 10-29-2008, 05:06 PM | #12 | Member Join Date: May 2008 Location: HOUSTON Posts: 36 | T-I Driftin: did u just strip off the fabric and re-use it? or buy some totally new fabric? pardon my ignorance. __________________ 1999 Avus blue 318ti M-tech, 5spd | | | 10-29-2008, 09:49 PM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2008 Location: Peoria, IL Posts: 256 | Quote: Originally Posted by tylercM3 T-I Driftin: did u just strip off the fabric and re-use it? or buy some totally new fabric? pardon my ignorance. | My fabric was not really salvagable plus i wanted to upgrade my interior a little so i went to Jo-anne fabrics and picked up some light gray vinyl. It is almost a perfect match to the bmw stock light gray. My interior was all black, stock, so i bought the bmw light gray shift/e-brake boots first and matched everything to that. Looks sweet! go get you some leopard print man! __________________ | | | 12-01-2008, 03:49 AM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2008 Location: Philadelphia Posts: 170 | complete noob to all of this, which is what i say on about every thread. but does the headliner come out easlily? like out through the trunk? | | | 12-01-2008, 04:02 AM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | it comes out through the trunk, but not easily | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
