Only after finishing and trying to reattach the caliper did i realize someone had forced the bolt into the boot and effectively stripped the boot's screw hole. I am worried about getting the bolt hole re-threaded because if it makes the hole too big the bolt with not work. Is this as big of an issue as i think it is, or can i find or get a bolt made to the right spec, since the bolts are long and only threaded at the end of the screw? | | | 02-18-2010, 03:02 AM | #2 | Member Join Date: Jul 2008 Location: Pittsburgh Posts: 69 | I would have to say that you will need to use a tap to re-thread the hole. You may be lucky and the bolt will just grab after wards, but you may not. | | | 02-18-2010, 03:13 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2007 Location: Anaheim, CA Posts: 125 | I'm kinda novice, but im assuming a tap would need a powerful drill? is it possible to rent these tools? | | | 02-18-2010, 03:16 AM | #4 | Member Join Date: Jul 2008 Location: Pittsburgh Posts: 69 | The tap doesn't need a drill in most cases. And bet I had to do the same thing on the same bolt as you. A place like Advanced Auto or AutoZone should have them for rent (a decent set can normally be found for a fair price too). And take a good look at the bolt, especially on the first few threads. | | | 02-18-2010, 07:30 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2007 Location: Anaheim, CA Posts: 125 | i think the bolt is fine? | | | 02-18-2010, 01:35 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Elizabeth City, NC Posts: 3,877 | You may be able to *carefully* run the correct size tap in that hole to clean the threads. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
