As for what I did recently, in preparation for my last track day, I needed to replace my brake pads... I had ordered some Hawk plus, but was shipped the wrong pads (two sets of rear Hawk HPS!) Returned the whole order and picked up some StopTech's instead... Also have a x-brace waiting to be installed, just waiting for the nutserts to come from Tisher...

James, I ordered the wrench-drive insert tool from McMaster-Carr for the nutsert installation after hearing about a couple horror stories using the hex-screw and nut technique... money well spent, if you ask me.

Hey Jerry!

What were the horror stories? I used the Hex-screw and nut combo on the 97 and it worked great! I made sure I found the best grade Hex bolt I could find, lubed the upper part of the threads and wrenched slowly. I still have one more x-brace to install on the 95, so, I just want to understand the horror to not deal with it.

I hope you're doing well! I've not had time to drop in the suspension yet in the 97. Likely later this month.

Tchau! Rich

New Front pads, rotors and oil change today.

After I had it all apart realized that Bimmerworld sent me the wrong pads and they don't fit.

4 car parts stores later I end up with Duralast Gold pads from Autozone. We'll see how they do after they break in a bit. Car is all back together.

Duralast gold are supposedly made by Bosch to OE pad specifications. Probably the best choice if you have to run to a local parts store.

Cool fact about duralast pads, when they wear out you can take them back and get another set under their lifetime warranty.

Really? I had no idea about the warranty.

Strange thing about them was that the material "pad" part is smaller than the BMW. Metal plate part is the same but the contact patch is smaller.

Default Coolant system rebuild

Ti's off the road for winter, so i decided it was time for a much needed coolant system overhaul and well as some preventative replacement. Its my 1996 318ti (M44) with 180,000kms. Im the original owner.
Replaced:

-battery
-All hoses, and those 2 notorious plastic coolant connector pipes (did the radiator last summer), Coolant flush
-Alternator
-Starter
-Main serpentine belt
-Cleaned intake manifold, injectors (tons of carbon buildup!) and replaced gaskets
-Bled brakes, changed oil and filter

Water pumps next on the agenda. i wanted OEM and no shops had one locally and the dealership price was insane. Nothing was too difficult to replace, although removing the intake manifold was a real pain due to the main wiring harness going right through the center of it! Disconnecting all the cables took a while and had to be done with some patience... Otherwise, the ti runs like new again, throttle response is much quicker and it doesnt bounce revs at idle anymore.

Gotta thank member CirrusSR22 for the helpful cooling system rebuild DIY:

Only mananged to take 2 progress pics along the way:
