I have not owned my 318ti very long. While doing a brake job I spotted this thing laying on the bumper in the right front of the engine bay. When hung on the bracket it nearly touches what appears to be the AC dryer. I thought it was the horn but after looking up 318ti horns for sale they did not look like this. I have not triggered the alarm system but maybe it is a siren for that? Charlie D. | Siren for the alarm system. Likely made by Alpine for BMW. I have one spare I need to find to replace the larger one I have on my Cali as my recently installed Depo projectors take up more space on that side. __________________ 1998 318ti Sport - "Cali" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior, Cali top 1998 318ti Sport - "Max" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior, S52 1997 318ti Sport - "Tiny" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior 1995 318ti Active - "Blanca" Alpineweib III/Schwartz leather interior Other Current Bimmers: 2006 530i / 2000 2.3L Z3 / 1997 1.9L Z3 / 1999 540it 1997 318ti Sport - "Huera" - RIP 1995 318ti Active - RIP 1995 318ti Sport - "Tiny" Sold 1994 325i Sedan - "Jade" - Sold 1991 318ic - "Bert" - Sold 1985 635csi sold 1984 533i "Max" Sold 1984 318i sold BMWCCA #160411 SUPPORT 318ti.org! I'm finally putting the car back together and found this guy on the ground under the car -- I believe it came off while I was re-attaching all the cabin air filter parts and think it attaches to the firewall somewhere, but I've yet to find where it came from. Any ideas? | | | 06-27-2015, 03:31 AM | #40 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2011 Location: Santa Rosa, CA Posts: 407 | I believe that's the windshield cowl drain. My mechanic actually recommended removing them completely after mine became brittle and stuck closed. It would back up and soak the passenger footwell inside when it rained. __________________ 1997 318ti 5-speed Moreagrün 1996 318ti auto Hellrot (retired) | | | 06-27-2015, 03:55 PM | #41 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2012 Location: Sacramento, CA Posts: 2,451 | Learned something new today. Have another easter egg hunt. ----- I can't find the screw part# for the wiring harness housing thing that sits at the back (in front of the cabin filter, above the valve cover). I took the heat panel off that blocks heat from the cabin filter area (I guess that's the function) and lost them like the idiot I am. HEATER PANEL: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=64_0092 WIRING HARNESS: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=12_0624 The heat panel uses 3 screws and nuts for mounting to the firewall, but I have no idea what screws are used to mount the wiring harness housing back to it (mine is hanging in the bottom 3 pics below). I notice on the older ti's it has a bracket that it mounts to. It's greyed out in the realoem for the 1998 318ti and I also checked and mine doesn't have that bracket. I don't have the heater panel back in because I'm still doing the cabin filters. I searched "12521724637" + "screw" and found "12521724711" in this link for the e36 320i: https://www.shiftoem.com/dev/showpar...diagid=12_0394 which shows screws in theirs. Red arrows below. Top picture isn't mine. Pulled that from a youtube video where it looks like someone used random screws I think. Thought of this but didn't want to strip anything. I already broke 2 valve cover bolts on this car. Online parts stores want around $4-6 per screw for "12521724711" (not for the 318ti). So I'm going to try to find something cheap locally rather than shell out the $ for that. Just might end up buying an assortment screw set and see what ends up fitting. | | | 11-12-2022, 11:00 PM | #43 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2007 Location: Oklahoma Posts: 179 | Nevermind. **** I'm an idiot. Seems the upper harness part "12521724637" on the 320i uses the same part # as ours. So their screw should also fit ours. Going to leave the post up as someone may find it useful or humorous. | | | 10-03-2023, 01:17 AM | #44 | Junior Member Join Date: Jan 2023 Location: TX Posts: 1 | California top parts Hi, The attached photo shows two parts that I need help figuring out where they go in a California top mechanism. Neither the parts diagram on realoem.com nor the Bentley manual are much help figuring out where these go. I've also downloaded the Cali top PDF files elsewhere on this site, but they did not have the info either. If anyone has photos, diagrams or knows where these go, would be greatly appreciated.
