You running tweaked firmware on your DME?? I get that all the time. Marko too....

If you are on modded firmware I will explain

Edit ~ I take that back. Let's talk about this. Do you have a wide-band on the car?

I think he's running stock M44 right now. I think that code can come up if you have a vacuum leak too, so check all your hoses. I personally hate the 4 to 1 fuel injector vac line.

Hey Jean, I had that same code a while back when my post cat 02 sensor got broken off from running over a chunk of ice. You might look under there and check the wires, I know you said you just replaced it, but something may have happened to the wires or it might be defective. Did you use an OEM Bosch sensor? Also, you may already know this but the code will remain stored even when the CEL goes out unless you physically clear the code with a scantool. Best of luck man, don't cheap out with o2 sensors, make sure you buy a Bosch OEM, not the universal ones that require splicing wires and such.

Yeah I did use the oem bosh sensor and I use a scantool to read/erase the codes, all the wires and connections looks good, so I just clean the cam sensor, maf sensor, the air temp sensor and TB hopefully the light doesn't come back on

I have the same fault code on my ti. All stock. I replaced both O2 sensors on a regular schedule. The engine light comes on usually after I come to a stop at a traffic light within a minute. Some times it goes out after I start the car. This is rare but it does go out on its own. Most of the time it comes back in a fairly short time after sitting at a light and idling. Sometimes it stays out for several days. I do not know what is causing it to come on and go out on its own. The pattern of the fault is very erratic. No set pattern other than it comes on after I idle at a traffic light. Any help would be appreciated. I doubt the O2 sensors are at fault. They have several specific fault codes for them.

Just remembered something. Do you guys have secondary air pumps? If so, next time you start your car on a cold engine, stick your hand in the engine compartment and feel around the secondary air pump for leaks. You have to be quick though because the pump only runs for about 30 seconds when you first start the car in the morning. So have you hood open and be ready to run around and feel the secondary air pump. You shouldn't feel any air blowing out of it, but if you do the rivets that hold it together are probably shot which will allow the pump body to separate and leak air. You can replace the 6 rivets with nuts/bolts and the pump will function normally with no leaks. I just remembered that I did this around the same time I replaced my o2 sensors and had the same code. Good luck guys.

Edit, If your car didn't come with a secondary air pump, perhaps your shut-off valve is not working:

I believe 96 year didn't come with SAP yet. 96 Ti is like the transition year.

January 1997 and on had the A.I.R. system. My 97 has a build date of 10/96 so I have no A.I.R. Good thing for me.

bumping an old thread.

i checked the air pump and there is definietly air coming from it. I pressed down on it during cold start and the air stopped spewing where i was pressing down....so the rivets are definietly shot.

thanks for the tip cooljess i am going to drill out the old rivets and secure them with some bolts.

any other tips?

also this air pump leak lead to engine misfires?
thanks!
