Default Just found it, list of parts for M3 clutch swap!!!

I just found the orders I wrote up when the BMW dealer swapped my gearbox and I had them upgrade to factory M3 clutch and pressure plate...these numbers may need reviewed for revision but it has worked great if a little heavy, but actually a couple of pounds lighter than the original and a whole lot stronger!!!


David Ellsworth – 96 318Ti – “TAZS TI”

Gearbox replacement (Warrantee), clutch and flywheel replacement, rear hatch strut replacement (warrantee).

Please check all part numbers. Use all 97 M3 part where applicable.

Replace gearbox with correct part. -- Warrantee
Replace flywheel with M3 part. – 21 21 2 229 015
Replace clutch disc with M3 part. -- 21 21 2 226 958 -- clutch kit 21 21 2 228 289
Replace pressure plate with M3 part. -- 21 21 2 228 065 -- clutch kit 21 21 2 228 289
Replace release bearing with M3 part. – 21 51 2 226 729 -- clutch kit 21 21 2 228 289
Replace pressure plate bolts (6x) with M3 parts -- 07 11 9 901 023
Replace clutch fork with M3 part. -- 21 51 1 223 302
Replace slave cylinder with M3 part. – 21 52 1 158 903
Replace pilot bearing with correct part. --???
Replace pivot ball with correct part. -- 21 51 1 223 328???
Replace shift fork retainer with correct part. --???
Replace return spring with M3 part – 21 51 1 223 234
Inspect and replace, as needed any other components handled during gearbox/clutch replacement.

Inspect and replace, as needed any gearshift linkage bushing, etc.
Inspect all replaced components for possible warrantee coverage (i.e.@ if clutch is not worn but shows defects, etc.)

Return any used parts not warranted to me.

Replace rear hatch struts with correct parts. -- Ordered parts are in

Supply rental car for duration of repairs.

NOTE: Please check all part numbers and parts for correct fit.

NOTE: Contact me if any issues, questions or if cost will exceed an agreed upon value.

is yours standard wot was the benifits from fitting m3 clutch on your 4cyl isnt m3 dual mass flywheel

The gearbox was a warentee job so free, the labor was free for the clucth as a result but BMW would not replace it unless found defective. Well it was not defective as they saw it but at 50,000 miles it was worn and the car from day one chudderd badly at times engaging the clutch when hot and here it is hot much of the time...I hate it, I am trying to figure a way to meet a nice UK lady and move there as potty as that might sound LOL!!! The dealer would do teh work but only with genuine BMW parts so a light weight flywheel was out really unless I could have figured out some other combination of parts and got away from the dual mass, but I could not come up with a parts list that would for sure work. The 240MM M3 setup is much more robust than the 208MM stock setup and it is actually a few pounds lighter as well. The chudder went away and when it hooks up it hooks up and I had thought maybe one day putting a supercharger/turbo on it so instead of leaving in a worn stock setup I had it all upgraded to M3 as the cost was within pennies and as it turned out my flywheel was not defective but was not working properly either as no resistance for about 10 degrees of rotation.

Best bet is a light one but I feels some are too light really, I want one about 14-16 pounds as that I think would be ideal as too light with our low torque I don't think is a plus.

cool cheers am looking for lightweight flywheel for min e may look into this option for mine cheers for info
