Default Contours - 7.5 x 17, recommended tire size?

State your opinion and why: 225 vs 235.

Application: 1998 Ti with M pkg., street use only.

Thanks!

Depends on your final drive ratio. the 235 is a nat taller than the 225.
If I'm feeling like the car is a little sluggish go for the shorter tire, running out of freeway revs go taller.

This of course ignores all the stuff like fit etc......

If your doing street use only, i would say go with the 225. You'll get better gas mileage and in reality, unless you have a sc, you dont need 235's. I run 215's all the way around and it looks sweet, but my next set im staggering 215 front 225 back.

I'm using 205 in front and 225 in back. Narrower tire is less suspected to aquaplanning. Not a nice feature on highways during rain.

215-45 is the best you can do.

i think 225 would be the max you would wanna go on an 7.5" wide rim, 235 and you'd almost have too much tire id think
i was running 225 on 8" wide and it was a nice fit, now im running 235 because i need a 40 series and they fit the wheel very nice.

IMO, 225/40 hands down on 7.5", if you can find a tire in that size that is - not alot of companies even make 225/40

edit :
check out http://www.kumhotire.ca/tires/detail...cat=7&ptn=KU31
it shows what sizes are the best fits for the width of wheel... im sure you could go outside those specs a little bit, but if your looking for practicality, its worth a look.

The 16" sport wheels I believe are 7.5" wide and they came with 225s. I would stick to that simply because its a good handling balance, not too much tire, just enough. You can get 245s on there, but that would be no fun too much grip, unless its supercharged or swapped, then you may need the traction. 225/45/17 would be my choice, especially since that wont mess up the speedo odometer with improper wheel size.
