The car will live. I am searching for a new M/S52 longblock and swap it all back together. I wanted to go boost on old motor since it could handle some, but those plans have been shelved for now

Ouch. Sorry to hear that. I'm sure you will get it back together. Does the BMW enthusiast have an S52 to spare?

No we are working on a value of the motor right now. If any builders could chime in on the cost to replace/value of the motor it would be appreciated. He is a good guy and just want to be fair to each other. I've been looking but almost impossible to find a street motor with 20K on the bearings/all internals. The quotes from shops to rebuild have been high but engine building isn't cheap nor is any of the internals. Nothing can be reused Also cylinder #6 did not have fun.

Good you can work it out as opposed to the other guy who destroyed Tony's motor.

Good luck!

Wow sorry to see the carnage of a bad money shift. Frankenmouth fun little town for a foodie, my ex lives not far away in Saginaw. So needless to say I have been there lots of times.

Yes I am thankful that he owned up to it rather then having to battle it out in court. It's better all around and I hope by next week we can come to an agreement. I'll update the thread when I've figured out what next motor wise for the car.

Frankenmuth was a fun trip. Nice seeing all the older Volkswagen in a Bavarian setting.

Well I can post an update. I picked up a local S52 dropout with 130K on it roughly. Looks pretty clean. Motor will get torn down. New gaskets/seals everywhere and converted to OBD1. M50 valve cover and coil packs. Internally will remain stock. I did get all IWIS Racing timing chains and guides. Hopefully paint the block this weekend and finish taking parts off. Then get swapped by end of the month!!

Hey ZEK, why go obd1?

Is it just easier because you where OBD1 before? In general I don't see any advantages OBD1 vs OBD2?

Btw congratulations on the s52!! Its going to be fun!

Since the car is setup for OBD1 it's much easier. Basically just swapping the long block and changing a few connectors. Swap tunes and off it goes.

I really wish the 2.8 would have gotten onto a Dyno. I'll have the tune set for 6800 on this motor. Old one was 7100. Should be pretty similar motors with maybe 20 more wheel hp. Old motor had full ARP kit in which I had planned for boost. But plans change. I'm just trying to keep my costs down for now.

Ya that makes sense, 6800rpm is stock s52 limiter right?

Put it on the dyno when you can !

Don't take the limiter of the S52, it's there to save the engine the longer stroke can cause issues in upper ranges. Glad to see you are breathing new life into it.

OBD II would give you the ability to check faults in running issues easier. I might swap in OBD II into my e30 in the 332es.

Yup, I also prefer OBDII have all the tuning options and more sensors to check faults.

@E30-M3 - did you ever post up your e30 332es? Looks like fun!

No it is tucked away with M3 now. I had to reserve spots for them at a body shop I use. It needs paint desperately.

Limiter on new tune will be 6800 which is in line with more conservative tunes from major tuners, but agreed there is a limit to these stock motors. I prolly only went to redline on old motor a handful of times. I drive pretty slow for the most part. Stock redline is 6500. And IMO it's not worth trying to go back to OBD2. I had been satisfied with 1.

Also we need e30 pics!!
