Default Magic Fix?????

Does this adapter solve the problem of putting a 6 Cylinder E30 diff in a 318ti?

what problem is that? using e30 half shafts? from what i've read (and am planning to do), e30 LSD + e30 half shafts should work. others please correct me if i'm wrong.

I wanted to keep from replacing the halfshafts. I guess I could just replace them too. Now I must decide on whether to swap a 318ti 3.45 LSD or an E30 3.73 LSD. I'm seriosly considering a lightweight flywheel, and want to keep the torque up while accelerating, but RMP's down on the highway.

Default Stay with 3.45's

If you're looking to keep revs down, stick with the 3.45:1 ratio. I had 3.73's in a few cars (not bimmers but similar enough) and 80mph on the highway in 5th is a 4500rpm experience. If somebody is running 3.73's in a ti and has better input, please advise but I'd say you're best to stick with the taller gear.

I recently put an e30 3.73lsd in mine and have been happy. Cruising at 75mph went from about 3200rpm to about 3500. 80 is about dead on at 4k rpm. So figure in 5th, 1k rpm gets you 20mph. The acceleration is noticably better. I'd say about 10 percent increase in accel, and 10 percent decrease in fuel mileage. My top speed is the same as my speed limiter is still there. But I think the theoretical top speed would be about 120-125 or so.

As far are the adapters...Those say they're for a 2002 but a kit similar to that would help. I got e30 axles but the tone rings were too big and I destroyed my abs sensors trying to get them out so the axles would clear.

Wouldn't a lightweight flywheel accomplish the same thing as a 3.73 diff? I think the flywheel has no downsides, but the 3.73 does. I get torque with the flywheel, but no RPM increase. By installing a 3.45 LSD, I get the traction, but no RPM difference.

3.45 LSD from a 318ti and lightweight flywheel seems the perfect balance.

bimmerboi, what did you do to resolve the issue with abs sensor clearance? i'd be interested to know since i'm going to be doing the e30 LSD + half shafts once it warms up (hopefully soon). thanks in advance for the help/info.
