They are ET22 8.5 x 18's all round with 245/40/18 tyres all round - thinking of swapping the rears to 235/40/18's & the fronts to 225/40/18's Anyone have the same size wheel/offset on their compact? What tyres are you using? My suspension is standard. | | | 05-31-2011, 05:18 PM | #2 | Moderator Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Maryland Posts: 3,220 | The offset of the wheels are for the E39, thus why they rub. Chances are you will want to run a smaller tire, but not too small. Does anyone know if the hubcentric rings stock are the wrong size? | | | 05-31-2011, 05:21 PM | #3 | Junior Member Join Date: May 2011 Location: Kent Posts: 19 | Yep they were off an E39 M5. I've sorted spigot rings, they sit snugly on the hubs and dont vibrate etc so just unsure what tyres to go for now. | | | 05-31-2011, 09:59 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: 43609 Posts: 3,425 | If theyre all 8.5 just do 225/40 all around, dont stagger it. __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | 06-01-2011, 04:45 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | you might need to roll the fenders a little bit too, with a stock suspension you might be able to get away without it though | | | 06-01-2011, 05:00 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2010 Location: Wichita Falls, Texas Posts: 1,364 | How does the car handle with those 18" wheels? | | | 06-02-2011, 02:45 PM | #7 | Junior Member Join Date: May 2011 Location: Kent Posts: 19 | Thanks - arches have been rolled already. Car handled fine with the wheels fitted, I did a 100 mile trip in it & it felt really nice to drive, love it. Will be going for 225's all round - anyone know if M3 Evo top mounts would fit? I've got some spare (got an M3 coupe track car) -wouldnt mind a bit of negative camber on the front. Will be looking to fit some coilvers at some point - do they have to be Compact specific or will Saloon/coupe coilovers fit? | | | 06-04-2011, 02:09 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: 43609 Posts: 3,425 | If youre talking about the offset strut mounts, installing the right side mount on the left and the left mount on the right side strut will induce 1.3 degrees of negative camber. __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | 06-19-2011, 03:04 AM | #9 | Junior Member Join Date: Jun 2011 Location: boston ma Posts: 8 | this message for bluebimma...hey im new to the 318ti juss got me sum 18x8.5 front 18x9 rear factory ride height...wut tire size do you recommend and wut size spacer will i need if needed please let me know thnks | | | 06-19-2011, 03:19 AM | #10 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | Quote: Originally Posted by Rgalvez87 this message for bluebimma...hey im new to the 318ti juss got me sum 18x8.5 front 18x9 rear factory ride height...wut tire size do you recommend and wut size spacer will i need if needed please let me know thnks | It all depends on the wheel offset. | | | 06-19-2011, 03:59 AM | #11 | Junior Member Join Date: Jun 2011 Location: boston ma Posts: 8 | thnks how do i figure out the offset of the rim? | | | 06-19-2011, 05:49 AM | #12 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | Most wheels have stamps or markings indicating the specifications. If your wheels aren't marked, your guess is as good as anyone elses. Usually when you upgrade to wider wheels, your concern is going to be whether or not the tire rubs the fender. So it makes no sense whatsoever to run spacers as this would only bring the wheel out further and cause the tire to rub even worse. In few cases, the tire may rub on the shocks and struts. Usually this is when people run 10 inch or wider wheels, in which case spacers may be needed, however it should also be expected that extensive fender modification will likely be necessary as well. I suggest using google to learn more about how offset affects fitment. I think tirerack gives a pretty good explanation. Best of luck and welcome to the forum. | | | 06-19-2011, 04:23 PM | #13 | Junior Member Join Date: Jun 2011 Location: boston ma Posts: 8 | cooljess my the offset of the rims all four are 35mm...should i b fine? | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
