i fixed mine real easily, take it apart smear super glue all over the moving parts and move it every once in a while while its drying the glue will create resistance and keep the vent open did that about a year ago and i have no problems yet

How easy is it to take this out? Do I have to dismantle the whole dash?

I like the idea of using the felt pad fix. I was considering using some wax paper to slide them in without the adhesive sealant, and then pull the paper out and see if they'll stick well enough. If it's not that hard to remove the vents from the dash, then I might see about taking it apart.
