I got this idea when I called the parts department at the nearest BMW dealership to see how much it would be to have another key cut. First of all he said it costs $80, which I kind of expected, but he said that they had to send it away to get it cut. So question #1 is this: Is there a cheaper way of doing this? Could I send it somewhere myself and save some money by bypassing the middleman?
The second question I have is can you retrofit a keyless entry system to the 318ti? Not a cheap one, but a factory one from another BMW? Was keyless entry offered on the 318ti as an option? Anyways, thanks for the help, guys! Just trying to save a little money! __________________

The keys are already cut; your dealer is just ordering them from the warehouse. There's no way to get an aftermarket key, due to EWS.

Yeah. Didn't catch the price. My key (with light) was $38 from the dealer (Herb Chambers, Boston Mass)
Are you going to Dreyer? Those guys are pretty much the worst when it comes to prices. Think they asked $9 for the oil filter. I needed it, so I coughed up.
Call Tischer (Steven, site owner's favorite) and see if they can help you out. They'll probably need your registration and driver's license faxed to them. __________________

Yeah, I called Dreyer... Well, thanks for that info as well. Maybe I won't have to sell my kidney to get another key cut after all! __________________
