1995 M3 airbox in photos. I personally used a non-M3 6 cylinder airbox. The mounting points and inlet hole shape are the main differences between the different 6 cylinder boxes (M3 and many non-M3 variants). The main issue with the 318ti is going to be the alignment with the 6 cylinder airbox. May be fine.

Thank you! Did you run a cone filter before this airbox mod? If so, did you perceive any performance difference after installing the airbox?

No cone filter, use the M44 airbox with a 4" Fogg intake behind the foglights.

Thanks! I'll search fogging the air box as an option.

Thanks! Looks easy enough to do. Good explainations of the pros and cons as well. I'll pick up a spare airbox at the yards to setup in advance.

Hey guys, just had a bit of an update - I installed the bottom mount for the supercharger, I also installed an OEM bushing and replaced the serpentine belt for the car, now its is nice and quieter, although it does have a bit of noise, but oh well...

I also installed the OEM M3 airbox in there, it takes up a bit of space, but now the car idles and drives much quieter and feels better anyway. A whole lot better than my 'ghetto' setup of having a cone filter speed taped to the MAF and zip-tied in place.

Now this thing is capable of being semi-reliable and alright.

I timed myself to 60 with the new 2.93 LSD from a bad standing start and it was about 8.7 seconds without really pushing it, which was ok. Once the car is in motion you can really move, downshift or accelerate to a cruising speed on a highway takes no time at all.

Driving this thing is definitely a lot of fun, even with a 2.93 the rear tires can break loose on a turn and it overall feels a lot more solid.

Now for the difficult question:
I will have to pass smog with this thing, and although the supercharger kit is CARB approved, I have to install the damn secondary air pump and plumb it to the valve. Right now the valve is just plugged up so that its quiet, but I know I have to set it up well, so I would like to know if anyone had any tricks besides installing a cone filter and using the bracket that came in the kit (which I will have for sale btw if anyone needs it...)

Cheers,
Artem

Here's some pics of what I was up to, I had to stretch the crap out of that silicone hose (does anyone know where I can get a slightly longer one that would possibly have a slight 'S' shape to it - the box sits ok, but its not completely perfect - held only by one mount...

Anyway, this is what I was up to over the weekend, cleaning up my mess slowly but surely.

My SAP was moved to the passenger firewall, but it appears that you have your battery in that location. Your COP setup seems to have freed up some room on the passenger side. With that said:

1. The valve itself can be clocked (turned) to any position (angle). You might have to remove it and use a vise and a pipe wrench to gently coax it to a new angle.

2. The wiring for the SAP (in the engine harness) can be pulled out of the loom to reach the passenger side area.

3. Use the oil breather filter for your fresh air intake for the SAP.

4. A 6 cylinder Z3 has a SAP bracket that can be mounted to a flat surface such as the firewall, etc. if that helps (look for a used one as the new ones are $$).

Good luck.

Thank you so much!! I browsed through some used brackets, couldnt find any - but my stock TI plate should mount to a flat surface, and you gave me a pretty neat idea - I will be making an aluminum adapter plate shortly to fit the SAP where the multi-coil went before.

Another thought crept up in my mind - I want to replace the idle control valve and throttlebody with the M42 unit that has much easier accessible tubes, and I wanted to know if anyone knows the pinout for the ICV that came on the 97+ M44, if this task is possible. I think the older M42/M50 ICVs are 2-pin units, and the M44 is a 3-pin unit, I may be wrong though. I have an older unit lying around the garage so I thought of implementing that, I feel it would be easier than machining a whole new plate and getting the idle just right, and having all those hoses all over the place.

Cheers!

Monolith, you are the man! I got the other diagrams off that site - one for the 318is/ic, and I just thought of getting one thats an M50 based one - I noticed the M50s had 3-pin ICVs, unfortunately one lying around my garage is a M42 based one so it is only a 2-pin one, it might work but I dont want to take any risks.

I think I will try and adapt an M42 TB with an M50 ICV which should even have the same pinout as the M44 ICV, the connector might be a bit different though...

This is the diagram for the M50:

Nice work! Where did you relocate the secondary air pump to? Did you have to relocate anything else? Looks like the ASC actuator was also moved. Didja have any issues or lessons learned?
