Default Back together after 9 months... Idling at 4,500 RPM?!

It took me 9 months to replace my clutch... Thanks to a frozen starter bolt that had to be cut out along with my will to live.

Anyway... I put everything back together, and I think I was pretty thorough. It started right up, much to my amazement, but hummed right up to 4,500 RPM and won't dip below.

I haven't run it for more than a minute at a time, so maybe it'll need to recalibrate some things... But I wanted to run it past the forum to see if anyone may have run into this issue and could offer some advice.

Let me know what you think!

Thanks!

Vacuum leak/loose clamp/cracked boot or hose, stuck throttle cable, stuck cruise control cable.

Thanks! I did check the cruise and throttle cables. I'll start with cracked/loose vacuum hoses... Thank goodness there are only 87 of them!

lol, no kidding.

Check brake booster vacuum hose and oil cap. I think it would be a pretty big leak to get you to 4500 rpm.

That's why I was thinking more of a "sensor" issue... Vacuum leaks normally make little bumps and rough idles, but this is my first BMW.

Make sure you didn't accidentally swap the throttle and cruise cables, not stuck but their positions reversed on the throttle body. I did that once and it idled really high.

Someone had tightened the cruise control cable adjuster! Easy fix, but tough to find!

Thanks for all your suggestions! Purring like a german kitten again...
