It's worth fixing the easy things to maximize outcome of the final sale price.

A typical buyer will pass on the broken window mechanism.

In the US, a broken window mechanism means that the car cannot pass a safety inspection- so it cannot be registered by a new owner. A car that can't be registered is not worth much to a perspective buyer.

Sorry i just figured out how to post pics. and the window came off the track and needs to be put back on track that is the problem, its a fix not a replace. it will go up and down it just comes off of track every once and a while.it will be addressed soon.

Is that true? I'm not disputing it, I just wasn't aware of it. Is that true in every state? The windshield I can understand, but the side windows??? What's the logic behind that?

Stigg! Where were you in October when I drove from SW Virginia to Columbus to check out a "nice" silver 318ti M that turned out to be ragged out/rusted out/poorly maintained? I drove right through Zanesville!

I'm not sure about logic but it is true, I think the chances of you failing inspection for it are pretty low, I don't even think to check them when I do inspections

Not with my mechanic. He takes inspections very seriously. Some silly little switch or something was preventing the backup lights from coming on during the state inspection. It was a Friday and he couldn't get the part until Monday. I had to drive around all weekend with a pink "REJECTION" sticker on my windshield. He's a stickler for details ... that's why I go to him. If he puts an inspection sticker on your car, it meets Virginia's standards. He never has to worry about the undercover state police inspector.

I've never had anyone inspecting my car or any other car me or my dad had here in Fl. I don't know if it's true for all the states. I just registered the car. The only thing they wanted was to have the insurance active and they registered it without even looking at the car. I didn't even have it with me. My dad drove. haha

Oh or do you mean that maybe an undercover police inspector could notice it and give you a ticket or pull it down of the street?

Side windows are a non issue in Oregon no safety inspection here. Just smog...
But the Buyer may not want to dick with the side window repair.

Stigg--As I am sure you know, the mileage does bring down the value. Sounds like a well cared for nice car, so you should have no problem attracting buyers. Checking out asking prices on autotrader.com, I'd guess yours should probably list for between $4000-4500 and sell for $3000-4000...need to get that window regulator fixed though!

Wish you were closer to AZ...I have been looking for a car just like yours--well cared for, high miles (i.e. lower price), 5-speed, mostly stock. I just can't find anything in/around AZ, NM, CO, and find it silly to spend close to $1000 to ship a car that is only worth $3-4K.

BTW, re: safety inspections....it's mostly only states east of the Mississippi, especially the northeast, that have safety inspections. Out west, you only need a smog check for anything built since the 1970's... [before the 1970's, you are even exempt from smog checks!]

Fly to the car and drive it home. That's cheaper than $1000 AND you get a "road trip" out of it too.
