We're working on a build for a friend right now and the goal is to have the car competition ready for under $10k. He's going to be using a 325 engine. We built and refreshed a 325 for chump and I think were just over $6k to get it done (including rims, new rubber, new control arms, and complete refresh on the braking system) though we did scrounge some parts from other race cars just collecting dust in the shop. Long time no update, so looks like I have a few more videos to post up. Been working on a 2nd "328 Coupe" this summer which has taken time away from the Compact. Hoping to dig back into some fun upgrades for the hatch shortly. Stay tuned... Some way cool stuff happening including a new motor. Once I get it running, I'll take some time to get details up. I kinda currently have a White 318ti sitting in the driveway with Rally tyres dummy fitted, 300mm brakes and an S50B32 conversion underway. Yup Euro Specs! Cage is soon followed by Rallysprints and the occasional forest venture. I am interested in the Sooper Bitching Suspenders. Got any second hand ones that need to find a new Compact? Have you tried out the 50mm ones yet (yess I found rally anarchy). The current 40s are still in great shape but will be finding a home on a 328 rally rental that I'm also working on. Best bet is that if you want a set, get on that waiting list early and often. I plan on swapping S50 B32 twin turbo engine, 1200 whp, into an E36 compact. Goal is to lower weight as much as possible. Only concern is rear subframe, differential.... | | | 10-04-2014, 06:10 PM | #539 | Junior Member Join Date: Feb 2014 Location: Philadelphia, USA Posts: 19 | I'm Looking into doing a similar swap for the TI and I'm just wondering what you think your weigh distribution might look like with the big heavy lump and the car stripped of all its weight. | | | 10-30-2014, 11:37 PM | #540 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2009 Location: Denver Posts: 373 | Can't remember weight distribution and don't have a set of scales anymore. The car was no longer 50/50, but it's not terrible. My seats are pretty far back, so with two people in the car, it might get fairly close to 50/50 again. The toyota diff I used was an 8", but honestly I wouldn't wish the swap on my worst enemy. It's been a PITA and I've simply been recommending people stay with OEM solutions. Rally guys who don't launch on pavement seem to have the small case diff holding up just fine even with the 6-cyl swaps. Mine has an S54 in it now, so I'd probably go with a medium case diff if I had to do it again. Probable in the 3.7-3.9 range so that cruising on transits isn't so damn loud...I have a 4.3 in it now.
