(Also found it in the Bentley manual.)
- Tested the new Z4 2.5 shifter now that the clutch is working again. Shorter throw and notchy like Bert. (Bert, my 318ic Vert) I like!
- Reattached all fuel lines
- Cleaned and reconnected the plumbing for the PS resevoir. New cap and o-ring.
- Cleaned the subframe in preperation for an E36 x-brace coming in the mail.
- Dropped in the recharged battery
- Reinstalled the radiator, replaced the temp sensor, filled and bled the system. All new hoses, water pump, thermostat and PITA connector pipes. Filled with just short of 2.0 gal of BMW 50/50 AF/Distilled water mix.
- I'll pick up some synthetic ATF tomorrow for the PS system, then install the airbox and bolt down the hood.
Only 102 outside today. I had a shop fan running so it wasn't so bad. Need to check one possible vacumn hose connection on the throttle body and refill the PS system before starting it up. __________________ 1998 318ti Sport - "Cali" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior, Cali top 1998 318ti Sport - "Max" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior, S52 1997 318ti Sport - "Tiny" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior 1995 318ti Active - "Blanca" Alpineweib III/Schwartz leather interior Other Current Bimmers: 2006 530i / 2000 2.3L Z3 / 1997 1.9L Z3 / 1999 540it 1997 318ti Sport - "Huera" - RIP 1995 318ti Active - RIP 1995 318ti Sport - "Tiny" Sold 1994 325i Sedan - "Jade" - Sold 1991 318ic - "Bert" - Sold 1985 635csi sold 1984 533i "Max" Sold 1984 318i sold BMWCCA #160411 SUPPORT 318ti.org! Started right up, runs cooler. I really like the Z4 2.5 shifter. It was pre swap running about 117C on the damaged motor. On the replacement, it got no higher than 102C. At the end, the damaged motor would not start after 30-40 seconds. This one fired right up. Tomorrow, I'll do a compression test to see how consistent the cyls are. So, hindsight, this motor swap plus renewal parts ran me about $1100 total that included: - A donor M44 motor with all accessories and with a great condition clutch and PP.
- Replacing the shifter and renewed the bushings/seals
- New tranny and motor mounts
- New clutch slave cyl
- New Thermostat
- New coolant sensor
- Swapped out all coolant, fuel and vacuum hoses, plus both plastic pipes.
- Fuel filter, tranny flush, oil filter housing gasket and the plastic thing-a-ma-bob inside the Oil filter housing.
- Replaced the two large rubber intake hoses to the throttle body.
- All fluids flushed, all filters changed
Also moved over a new WP and radiator from the other motor. A litlle more accelerated renewal than I originally planned for the car, but now, many of the usual trouble areas are addressed. Now I can focus on the wooden boat. James, Joe, Don. Meet up at Riverboat in a few weeks? Jess... Come on up! __________________ 1998 318ti Sport - "Cali" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior, Cali top 1998 318ti Sport - "Max" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior, S52 1997 318ti Sport - "Tiny" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior 1995 318ti Active - "Blanca" Alpineweib III/Schwartz leather interior Other Current Bimmers: 2006 530i / 2000 2.3L Z3 / 1997 1.9L Z3 / 1999 540it 1997 318ti Sport - "Huera" - RIP 1995 318ti Active - RIP 1995 318ti Sport - "Tiny" Sold 1994 325i Sedan - "Jade" - Sold 1991 318ic - "Bert" - Sold 1985 635csi sold 1984 533i "Max" Sold 1984 318i sold BMWCCA #160411 SUPPORT 318ti.org! The lock was a pain to get out of the old flap. Ended up just breaking off three of the tabs that hold it in.
