i used both the .70 and .08 cometic on my old m 44 and had no problem but i also torqued the head to 85 lbs with apr bolts around 2005 when i started getting into 1 4 there was no h.g for bmw i made a cooper gasket that never sealed after 6 times off removing the head i used cooper spray and 90 lbs in it finally sealed i now hang that gasket in my garage to remind me of all the hard times pulling the head off and staying up till 2am working on my car ...matter of fact i will take a pic in post it...it all comes down to ar finish and torque ...

The bolts for the head are M10. Maximum torque for a 12.9 grade bolt is 64 lb-ft.
ARP may have a bolt with superior mechanical properties because they say the can go to 70 lb-ft.
Going higher will just stretch the bolt more.
Just my $0.02

Used to use them (Cometic) as well, got tired of leaking gaskets..
They seem to be hit or miss as to sealing to aluminum heads.

Just my experience...

The issue has been the gasket delaminating on our little 1500 cc nissans we rent for school cars. The cars only have 10:1 and running a standard webber. We switched back to a factory gasket as well. Unfortunately NISMO dropped their comp one that fit our older engines.

From the pictures below it looks like cylinder number 1 had a detonation under high boost and the head walked on the block. This would also explain head bolts that are loose. Those head bolts stretched when the head picked up off the block. No head gasket on our motors will last if you're stretching bolts and lifting the head. We might need to O-Ring the block if there is enough room between the cylinders? I don't use any bolts on the head that stretch I Use modified M3 bolts that are reusable so there is no stretch factored into torqueing the bolts.
