Default OEM/Aftermarket Speaker Wire Question

How many people here are using the original speaker wire/amplifier for their aftermarket systems? I just bought a ti (love it), but the people that had it a while back had a big system in it with an aftermarket head unit so they had to rewire it for their harness. The people I bought it from didnt need the big system so they had it taken out and the oem harness rewired back, but it seems like they did it wrong. When I went to install a new deck the amplifier didn't work so I was just going to use the oem wires to run from the deck to the speakers bypassing the amplifier. After trying to trace the cursed wires for about 2 hours I finally caved and ran my own wires. I figure once I get some Infinity components I would have had to do it anyways. Also any idea on how to get the amplifier out of its little space? Mine seems to be in there pretty good.
