I recently put in my medium case LSD with a ratio of 3.73. My car has been throwing the code for the cam position sensor for a while. Ever since I put my diff in. It will start up ok. But it redlines like a thousand rpm's early. It loses power at like 5500 and will sound like it's redlining. My traction light and ABS light has been on for months. But I never worry about it cause I like having no traction control and I don't mind not having ABS. I did not use the rear ABS sensors when I put my new axles because it didn't have working ABS in the first place. I'm almost 100% positive its the cam position sensor it has to be. Whats your guys thoughts? Thanks guys Alec Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk __________________ Im guessing im the youngest member on here with a S52 power'ed Ti at 16 years old! | | | 07-29-2011, 06:29 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Portland Or Posts: 2,666 | Exact symptoms of a ECU shutting you down due to a bad sensor. And i started it up. Check engine light was off. Idled good and everything. Took for a drive. Let it warm up. Then did a pull. And yay. It didn't do the sputter at 5k rpm and didn't lose power. Did a couple more. Then it was still ok. Then I did one more. Boom. Sputters at the same rpm and loses power. The 5 seconds later the check engine light pops on. This is getting to the point where the m44 is pissing me off. It's time for a motor swap. I talked to my dad and he's down for it. I want more power anyways. Here i come 52. If it's for the Cam position sensor again after a good sensor has been installed, it could be a problem with the speed wheel on the intake cam. This is item 5 on the link: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...64&hg=11&fg=25 I would make sure this wheel was not bent up, loose, or covered with sludge. | | | 07-29-2011, 03:59 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2010 Location: Potomac Falls VA DMV Posts: 1,794 | Thats under the valve cover. Not the intake manifold. Right? I doubt that's issue Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk __________________ Im guessing im the youngest member on here with a S52 power'ed Ti at 16 years old! | | | 07-29-2011, 04:04 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: Oxford, Ohio Posts: 868 | Yes, it's under the valve cover and easy to check. Did you read the codes? | | | 07-29-2011, 04:09 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2010 Location: Potomac Falls VA DMV Posts: 1,794 | I haven't after I put the sensor in. And I replaced my valve cover gasket. It's kinda annoying haha Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk __________________ Im guessing im the youngest member on here with a S52 power'ed Ti at 16 years old! | | | 07-29-2011, 07:25 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Florida Posts: 2,525 | Check out this thread- http://www.318ti.org/forum/showpost....&postcount=415 Since you just changed something, that is the most logical place to begin your investigation. Speed sensor output issues will lower the RPM to 5500. I thought cam and crank position sensors lower the RPM much lower, or prevent the car from starting at all. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
