In 328i, the i is for (fuel) injection but as dredder said, our ti is Touring International, the same as what the ti in 2002ti stood for. When the 2002ti had fuel injection it became a 2002tii.

I know it is basically known that it is Touring International, but isn't the term "touring" used by BMW to describe the station wagons? As in 325iT?

interesting point, hmmm, also i dunno anyone that's driven long distances in the TI, but i drive 100 miles to work round trip, and it's not exactly a vehicle i'd choose to "tour" anywhere in lol i know i know, it's a sacrafice for the good handling!

Its the TI for Touring International, as stated..... And as also stated the Touring usually means wagon in BMW terms. Maybe in a sense, our cars are similar to wagons. Neither have trunks, they both have hatch backs. Maybe thats where the similarities lie.
