Unhappy steam and gushing coolant

So I was driving my car (1998 318ti) and suddenly I saw what I thought was smoke coming from under the hood. I pulled over and saw that it was gushing antifreeze. I let the engine cool for a while and unknowingly let all of the antifreeze leak out. I had it towed home, and tried to find where the leak was by pouring some 50/50 water and antifreeze in, but I couldn't find it. It seems like the leak is right behind the engine. Any ideas what it is leaking from, and how much it will cost to fix it?

plastic coolant "Y" fitting on the back of the engine between the head and the firewall. 8 bucks. Search the knowledge base section for "cooling system rebuild"

edit; here:

And don't forget to PROPERLY bleed the system afterwards:

Yes, you will find LOTS of writeups on it, seach for Overheating, and various swear words, its a "service" item on these cars....
