Default Transmission Noise

My 96 318TI with an automatic just started making a whining noise.
It is much louder in reverse. It has 146K miles on it.
Unknown last filter/fluid change date.
I checked the fluid and it is full.
Anyone know what I should start looking at from here?
Thanks in advance.

I guess I'd make sure nothing is rubbing first on the output flange, guibo or driveshaft. I had some insulation from the transmission tunnel that had fallen and rubbed on the guibo making some noise. Not really a whine though.

Besides that, you might as well change the transmission fluid/filter. It's a pain-in-the-ass to do though. Messy, and getting the level right is finicky process.
