What kind of MPG should I be getting out of an M42 with an Auto, On regular I have averaged last 3 tanks 20.3, is this right? or should I be running premium. | | | 09-26-2009, 04:53 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | you're really supposed to run at least 89, IMO it's not that much more expensive so why not? I typically get around 25-30 with my standard M42 on 93, mostly city driving | | | 09-26-2009, 05:16 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2007 Location: Safety Harbor, FL Posts: 112 | i guess since ive seen everyone is gettin atleast 20mpg on their TI its time for a new intake boot lol my solid 18 mpg city is killin me | | | 09-26-2009, 06:44 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: Los Angeles, CA Posts: 1,464 | Depends on how you drive and what, if any, mods. you have. I have a Dinan Stage I chip, tend to have a pretty heavy foot around town, and probably average 18-20 MPG. On the other hand, I've gotten as good as 33 MPG on the freeway when I'm taking it easy. | | | 09-26-2009, 07:37 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2008 Location: Austin Posts: 3,059 | I usually get 16-18mpg on city driving. So it's actually normal. High way, I'm around 25-35mpg. __________________ Come get a ti-shirt Quote: From the e30 M3, evolved the e36. This last tank I put in premium ($.26 more a gallon) but will try the mid grade next tank. | | | 09-26-2009, 07:54 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2008 Location: Bethlehem, PA Posts: 1,106 | is it really that low? i have ALWAYS averaged 26 - 32 mpg.. but i have the m44 motor.. shouldnt be a real big difference.. ? that is 50% city and 50% highway driving... normally 28mpg.. i can even hit 36mpg on jsut highway... =] doing 75 steady __________________ Check out our new website! https://soltechsolutionsllc.com/ Green Your Decor with the Aspect! If I don't I get worried. If I put in 4 gallons I should be getting 120 miles out of it. __________________ custom dual exhaust,M3 front and rear bumper, 10.4 inch roof mount drop screen, Viper alarm system, DSII's rims, M3 Vader Seats, M3 Mirrors, Carbon Fiber CAI, Smoked Corners, Side Markers, Leatherz armrests, black grilles 225k miles and still the Ti goes on | | | 09-27-2009, 11:32 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Elizabeth City, NC Posts: 3,877 | Over the summer I did 90% highway driving and I saw at least 32mpg on the trip computer (reset every time I filled up). Now that I am back in school and my commute is about 5 miles per day (all city) the trip computer shows about 21-22mpg. That's with a 5spd M44. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 09-28-2009, 01:29 AM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Portland Or Posts: 2,666 | I have a 95 with the M42 and 5 spd, It shows 24 on the computer consistently unless I do a long freeway run where 32 is about my average and I drive 65 to 75 depending on the limit... And I'm in the Portland area as well. City I get 26mpg off turbo and around 16mpg if I'm running hard. This is due to surface flow tech on the valve surfaces that causes a tumbling effect. If you have an auto service the tranny and use good fluid. Make sure the brake calipers are all free, a little stick will hurt there.
