The only "mods" done to it (other than the S52 itself) are hi-flow cats, custom cat-back, and running a 328i DME instead of the proper M3 DME. I'll be making more dyno runs as well as getting an AFR graph after I make some changes to the engine (M50 manifold, throttle body, 24lb injectors, HFM, software) sometime in the near future. I think my HP numbers are a little low, possibly due to the wrong DME being used. | | | 09-30-2009, 06:08 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2007 Location: LA, Bellflower, CA Posts: 3,613 | and why are you running the wrong DME anyway? is there a purpose? __________________ -Theta Chi- Float like a cadilac, sting like a BIMMER .... my socket is just too thick and won't fit in the hole! damnit! It throws a CEL because it can't see the transmission. I also had a manual M3 DME but we couldn't get the EWS to align with it. The whole reason behind it was to pass SMOG after I went to the state ref because the CEL couldn't be on. The 328i DME is the same computer as an M3 but with a more conservative tune (less spark advance, lower rev limiter, etc). I'm either going to see if I can get it reflashed with an M3 tune, or eventually hunt down a match set of DME, EWS, key for a manual M3 and run that. Edit: I also wanted to make a run with the Dinan DME, but I grabbed the wrong EWS box and couldn't get the car to start. Where is Fairfield anyway? There is a shop around LA if that isnt too far to drive to that can probably help you out. edit: i wonder what im getting in HP with my dinan M3 DME with M50 manifold?? __________________ -Theta Chi- Float like a cadilac, sting like a BIMMER .... my socket is just too thick and won't fit in the hole! damnit! I have the M3 DME working, it is just annoying having to reset the CEL every time I drive somewhere. | | | 10-01-2009, 03:56 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | I'm sure the correct DME would make more power but at least you're making more power than with the M44 | | | 10-01-2009, 04:01 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: norcal - 94590 Posts: 3,186 | Chris; That does seem like a very conservative/low dyno... I agree, it's probably the 328 DME... (I have 3 other DME's, but they are all obd1... no help there.) I also got to drive a 2010 MX5. Stomp on the gas and you're going 100 faster than you can shake a stick at. The brakes are the size of dinner plates too. Dyno Dynamics are supposed to read a lot lower than other dynos as well. | | | 10-01-2009, 04:17 AM | #9 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | I wouldn't even bother putting my car on a dyno with that kind of tuning. But thanks for doing it though, atleast now we know what an s52 does with a 328 DME, lol. | | | 10-01-2009, 04:23 AM | #10 | Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: Fairfield, CA Posts: 93 | Quote: Originally Posted by cooljess76 I wouldn't even bother putting my car on a dyno with that kind of tuning. I grabbed the wrong EWS box and couldn't start the car, so both runs were made with the 328i setup. | | | 10-01-2009, 04:29 AM | #11 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | Quote: Originally Posted by Kilijan The origional plan was to run it with the 328i DME then swap to the Dinan M3 DME that I have. Still a cool idea, can't wait to see your next run with the M3 Dinan tune & M50 mani. | | | 10-01-2009, 05:12 AM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2007 Location: LA, Bellflower, CA Posts: 3,613 | yeah, i can't wait to see the dyno results when you use the dinan M3 software and M50 manifold. since its what i have. __________________ -Theta Chi- Float like a cadilac, sting like a BIMMER .... my socket is just too thick and won't fit in the hole! damnit!
