The guy i was parked behind, a friend of mine, backed into my car. Not too bad, hit the outside edge of the passenger side kidney. It isn't the most noticable and could be alot worse, but the whole center bumber piece is a little mangled, the hood hangs over a bit now and the bottom edge pops out in some places where it would usually flow behind the bumper. It almosts looks like it could be worked out by hand, no sharp creases. but damn. i just got new tires, brakes, plugs, belts... i was so happy with it. The guy gave me his card and said he'd pay for damages, somewhat reluctantly. It just wasn't a problem either of us wanted to deal with. At first glance you wouldn't really notice, but to me like everyone on this forum it stands out like a black eye. This raises a question, would you make a friend pay for damage to your car? __________________ known by most, hated by many, adored by the rest | | | 09-13-2005, 04:08 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2004 Location: North Saint Paul, MN Posts: 606 | Yes a true friend would volunteer to pay for it. Drink beers while you are doing it. Maybe it's time to redo the front end? New bumper (rieger?), shadow grills, euro elipsoid lights with an HID kit (go all out if you're going to be doing some work anyways!). __________________ '99 Dinan M3 | | | 09-13-2005, 07:13 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: state college, pa Posts: 3,431 | i agree with dusten; have him pay for parts, but do it on the cheap. the nosepiece comes off pretty easily, and can be bent back into shape. then it's just a matter of adjusting the gaps. it's entirely possible you could do this without very little cost to him except renting a heat gun and a couple hours' help. post a pic of the damage. __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | 09-14-2005, 12:08 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2005 Location: SoCal Posts: 144 | yeah, i managed to pull it out a good inch and a half by hand, i'll try to get some pics up. I have a friend who works at a collision repair center so i'll see if i can just get it done for a buddy price and split the cost or something. i guess i should feel lucky it didn't put more than a few chips off the bumper, didn't dent the hood, and missed the lights. __________________ known by most, hated by many, adored by the rest | | | 09-14-2005, 03:36 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2005 Location: tailgating your slow ass Posts: 518 | lots of beer will help | | | 09-14-2005, 09:56 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2004 Location: North Saint Paul, MN Posts: 606 | It's the oem nose piece right? I would replace it with that and not bother trying to get it to fit nicely. __________________ '96 Alaska Blue ti w/ Supersprint cat-back exhaust...Dinan CAI & Chip...Eibach Pro-Kit Springs...Bilstein Sport shocks...BavAuto camber kit...Brembo d/s rotors...UUC SSK...Centerforce Dual Friction clutch...TMS 9lb flywheel...18 inch OZ Rims...Carbon-Fiber dash/gauge bezel...Momo Shift Knob...Indiglo gauges...Schroth Harness...ZKW's/ProLumen 6k HID...Predator Chromiums http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y15...urowerksig.jpg | | | 09-14-2005, 10:30 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2005 Location: SoCal Posts: 144 | Quote: Originally Posted by nick_hegel It's the oem nose piece right? The one on ebay looks like its probably abs, i'm going to email them. it seems like the cheapest way to go so far, haven't had any luck at the junkyard (they're all scratched or dented too) and having it bent back out seems like a pain. I don't know though, not too sure about having plastic body parts... __________________ known by most, hated by many, adored by the rest | | | 09-15-2005, 12:26 AM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2004 Location: North Saint Paul, MN Posts: 606 | Sorry! The original nose is damaged and bent right?? If so it would just be easier to replace then try to ben back to original form. Does that make more sense?? __________________ '96 Alaska Blue ti w/ Supersprint cat-back exhaust...Dinan CAI & Chip...Eibach Pro-Kit Springs...Bilstein Sport shocks...BavAuto camber kit...Brembo d/s rotors...UUC SSK...Centerforce Dual Friction clutch...TMS 9lb flywheel...18 inch OZ Rims...Carbon-Fiber dash/gauge bezel...Momo Shift Knob...Indiglo gauges...Schroth Harness...ZKW's/ProLumen 6k HID...Predator Chromiums http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y15...urowerksig.jpg | | | 09-15-2005, 01:20 AM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: state college, pa Posts: 3,431 | getting that new nosepiece painted is going to run at least $150. you're better off taking the damaged piece to a shop and having them work out the kink. __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | 09-15-2005, 01:55 AM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2005 Location: SoCal Posts: 144 | thanks guys, looks like no matter what its going to be 200+ I posted a few wanted ads, and am going to call around to junkyards and such, trying to figure out if that particular piece verys from year to year / ti to 4 door, the one on ebay says it fits 95-96. if nothing turns up soon i'll bring it into my friends collision repair center and see what the damage is, no pun. Till then I'll keep working it by hand. Its actually not looking too bad, still far from perfect. __________________ known by most, hated by many, adored by the rest | | | 09-15-2005, 08:24 AM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2004 Location: Seattle Posts: 140 | Same thing happened to me recently, only the damage is a little worse, and I have no idea who did it because they didn't leave a note. Most people say they can't notice the damage, but it haunts me! Good luck with the repair! __________________ I less than three my 318ti | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
