Since I put on the new wheels I have been experiencing some issues. First being that the majority of the lug bolts partially backed out. I know I snugged them while the car was up the got them tight with the car on the ground. It was very strange as since then I have not had the problem. But secondly and more troubling is that the right rear wheel is making a "hollow thud" kind of noise that I never noticed before with the old rims and tires. I am wondering if the fact that my old stock rims were beat to hell and had crap super fat profile tires that I just never noticed the noise in the past and now that I have straight rims and low profile tires it is now more pronounced but it is starting to become bothersome.
I already had this happen to me in my M3:
The RATB pocket failed and sheared the bolts that secured the trailing arm to the car. This happened on I-95 at about 85 MPH which was scary as hell to say the least.
I got up under the car this afternoon, examined everything back there it all looks to be in decent shape. ti's do not have normal e36 rear suspension and it is closer to an e30's, correct?
The car does not bounce or make the kind of noises my M3 ever made and it is hard to really tell what is actually the car and what is the road conditions (anyone who is familiar with Richmond city streets knows what I am talking about). I live in an area that was once all brick and cobble stone streets and most have been paved over but still have grooves and ridges and pot-holes from Hell, and my street is even still paved with brick:
All the little dark spots are missing bricks and some parts there are like 5 missing bricks. Not to mention raised or deep manhole covers and driving around here is like navigating a mine field.
To say the least the streets here are not good on cars. My main concern and I am shell-shocked from the M3 is that I am soon going to have happen to my ti as what did the M3. Is it possible that I just have a bad bushing and it is not as serious as my wheel nearly falling off? The M3 I knew was going and I needed to get it checked out and before I had the chance it went but had no choice as the ti was off the road. The M3 would nearly lose control and would bounce when a bump was hit, the ti still drives fine just hearing this noise and am starting to worry.
Anyone else have the noise before?
