Been a while since I've done anything to the hatch. Been a while since I've driven it. Lol. It's been at a buddy's shop for a few months now. He ended up fixing my fenders for me. And now it's at paint. They are taking car of any dents, dings, rust, ect. It should look straight and clean when done. I just picked up a Z3M rear subframe complete with TA, brakes, 3.23 torsion diff, ect. I'll be picking it up next week but I don't think I'll put it on until winter time. It'll give me the chance to do the bushings and powder coat the calipers and finned diff cover. I bought new power flex bushing for the ti which I haven't installed yet. Will I be able to use those bushings (rtab, subframe, and diff) with the Z3M? Or do I have to get a new set of bushings? __________________ | | | 09-01-2013, 12:48 AM | #168 | Moderator Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Maryland Posts: 3,220 | Still replying to your PM | | | 09-01-2013, 01:29 AM | #169 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: PA Posts: 1,906 | Quote: Originally Posted by BMW_Hatchback Still replying to your PM | No worries bro, I just wanted to talk to someone __________________ | | | 10-27-2013, 05:06 PM | #170 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: PA Posts: 1,906 | A little update. Got the car painted just in time for winter...lol. I won't be driving it much. Haha Will probably have a friend of mine do a engine bay shave and tuck over the winter. I also have a Z3M complete rear to swap out. I'm excited to see that come together. Here's a few pics, nothing special. Well, I guess not cause I don't know how to upload pics from my ipad. I'll try to use the tapatalk app. __________________ | | | 10-27-2013, 05:16 PM | #171 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: PA Posts: 1,906 | __________________ | | | 12-21-2014, 03:17 AM | #172 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: PA Posts: 1,906 | So after procrastinating for a year or so, this happened today. It's been awhile since I turned some wrenches and worked on the ti. I gotta say, I miss it. This wasn't really a one man job but I got it done with two jacks. I know that must have been a chore to do alone. Also, just re-read this entire thread. You must have learned a lot along the way. Did you decide to go with an aluminum radiator? I am thinking about buying this one for my swap. https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...36coolingkit-1 __________________ Sean 1995 Active | | | 12-24-2014, 07:47 PM | #174 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: PA Posts: 1,906 | OBDI S52 clubsport It was just a little time consuming. I put two pieces of 2x4 about 10 inches long on the jack which was under the diff. The other jack was centered under the subframe itself. The ebrake cables were a pita. It's better to loosen the cable right were it enters the cabin. After it breaks free, make sure the ebrake handle is all the way down. After that it's a matter of lowering the subframe level so it doesn't bind up on the subframe pins. I found it to be fun and I'm eager to continue. I havent upgraded the rad yet.!! It is definitely gonna happen before I put the wheels back on. Lol. I'm also going with the mishimoto. Merry Christmas to all!!! __________________ | | | 12-24-2014, 09:45 PM | #175 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: SW Florida Posts: 4,275 | Thanks for the tips. So I was kinda bored today and was planning on rebuilding the calipers, thought I'd also paint the calipers using dupli-color caliper paint kit. The pistons and the bore in the calipers looked great, so that's good! Not sure what to do with the ///M. It's either black or white. __________________ | | | 12-27-2014, 01:24 PM | #177 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: SW Florida Posts: 4,275 | Black works. __________________ Sean 1995 Active | | | 12-27-2014, 03:31 PM | #178 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2008 Location: Globally Posts: 1,162 | How much of a soaking was it for the Z3M subframe? I bought one a few years back for my E30 and it was $800 in 09. Your car has gone through a big transition. | | | 12-28-2014, 05:08 AM | #179 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: PA Posts: 1,906 | I paid 2k for the subframe a few years back. I had some people ask if I'd sell it at that price point. You got a deal for $800! So I took the front calipers off. I'm glad I did cause the Pistons on these aren't so good. The drivers side boot wasn't on correctly, allowing **** to get in and corrode the piston. The other side has some slight pitting on the edge. I tried light sanding and buffing but didn't want to dig in too much. Does this look ok, or am I better off buying new ones?
