Sometimes the policy stays active for 30 days after you cancel it. | | | 10-26-2009, 03:37 AM | #1862 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | I don't know about that but I do still have the old card that says it's good until late November if I need it, so if I get pulled over I could just hope the cop will go by the card and not look it up or anything all the Suby needs is a brake line though and it's all good, I just need to figure out how to get it to the shop without having to pay for a tow, safety be damned, I'm trying to save money | | | 10-26-2009, 03:43 AM | #1863 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | well you could always just open the door and drag your foot, lol. | | | 10-27-2009, 02:23 AM | #1864 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | I made it there safely, I had my dad drive ahead and watch at the stop signs so I could just roll through without hitting the brakes too much, combination of engine braking and hand braking worked pretty well I got the car on the lift and found that it's a junction block that's leaking, the lines go up under the rear seat and through the interior to the master cylinder, and up above the gas tank to the rear calipers, stupid design and it's going to be a pain to replace the lines but I'm planning on just bypassing the junction and routing the lines to the calipers my own way and just leave most of the old line in place to make it a little easier. started it today and I'll probably finish it tomorrow or the next day sucks, I went through a bunch of trouble swapping some nice WRX seats in place of the lousy stock seats and I can't even drive the car | | | 10-27-2009, 02:33 AM | #1865 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | Hey Brendan, I had to replace a stripped out brake line on my Ti a while ago. Luckily they're pretty cheap, but I had to wait for the part to come from germany. Anyway, they come as straight tubes and you have to make all of the bends yourself anyway. It wasn't very difficult, since I had my motor out, but after I did it, i found out that Kragen and most auto parts stores sell them! They come in different lengths with various fittings, most metric are the same though, so if you want to route yours a different way, just check your local AutoZone or something, I'm sure they'll have what you need. It's also a good time to upgrade the flexible lines to steel braided. | | | 10-27-2009, 02:48 AM | #1866 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | I was aware of that, I work as a mechanic that's how we do all our brake lines, and up here where cars rust it's not uncommon at all for a brake line to blow out braided steel brake lines isn't going to happen on my winter beater, I used zip-ties, duct tape and self-tapping screws to put the front end back together after my boss backed into it and tore the front bumper off, I'm not going to suddenly start buying quality parts for it | | | 10-27-2009, 03:18 AM | #1867 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | Braided lines for the Ti silly! | | | 10-27-2009, 03:26 AM | #1868 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | I was talking about my Outback this whole time, did you think I was talking about the ti? the ti will be getting all kinds of new suspension and braking parts over winter though, stocking them up and installing them in spring | | | 10-27-2009, 03:42 AM | #1869 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | Ohhhhh! I got confused somehow. The whole insurance thing threw me off. I was wondering why you needed to take your Ti to work without insurance if the outback was the car with the bad brake line. Makes perfect sense now, lol. Yeah, duct tape, self-tapping screws and parts fabricated out of wood are perfectly acceptable for repairs on the winter beater, as long as the heater and windshield wipers work, it's all good, lol. | | | 10-27-2009, 03:46 AM | #1870 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | heater, wipers and good snow tires, that's all you need sweet ride, huh? you can see my 318ti.org sticker in the back window too | | | 10-27-2009, 05:13 AM | #1871 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | It was you on Google Earth flipping the camera off! | | | 10-28-2009, 01:55 AM | #1872 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | lol, that's not me, it doesn't have the gangsta whitewalls plus I haven't even been able to drive it since I got it because of this whole problem got some work done today, the line to the right rear caliper is run, but my boss used torches to try to get the fitting out of the left rear rubber hose and the hose just exploded from the pressure that ended up building up inside no parts stores had hose in stock so hopefully I'll be able to get the one I ordered tomorrow, the lady on the phone at Carquest wasn't sure if I had ordered it in time to get it tomorrow | | | 10-28-2009, 02:39 AM | #1873 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2008 Location: Greensboro, NC Posts: 234 | is it me or is your boss accident prone whenever it comes to the subaru? i mean isn't he the one who also hit your bumper too? | | | 10-28-2009, 02:48 AM | #1874 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | he was there really wasn't any way to get the fitting out without heat though, it was just way too rusted. I think because the 1/4" of line sticking out was pinched shut where I cut it, when he heated it the air inside expanded and with no where else to go just blew the hose out, made a hell of a loud pop too | | | 10-29-2009, 03:59 AM | #1875 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | success, installed the line, bled the brakes and all is good I think I figured out what that junction was for though, the brake pedal feels stiffer than it should so it was probably the proportioning valve, oh well, I don't need it | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
