Default Problem codes

Where do I check problem codes on my 1995 318ti? also is there a tool i can buy to do this?

are you talking about the check engine light? If so you can rent a code scaner from autozone or your can buy one from different places.

For the pre- 96 cars you don't need a tool to check what the CEL means. Check out these links for more info.
