Default Lost a day

You can all kick me now.

What I learned previously was that my backups where not saving the entire database.

So I've been importing a backup into a test database to test the backup.
Somehow I wrote over today's posts.

The good news is, my backups work.
The bad news is, we've lost a day.

We'll just consider this our own little "Groundhog Day."

maybe instead of putting the backup in the test database you put it in the real database?

That is exactly what happened. I just don't why it happened.

Losing one day isn't that bad.

At the bank last week it was decided to move a server & RAID array to make an upcoming project easier. This array had previously been on for probably 5 years or so. Got it moved, turned it back on, 5 discs were showing failure (of 10). We were able to coax 3 of those back into working, but the two failed drives still meant we "lost" nearly 700GB of data. I say "lost" because we do have onsite and offsite tape backup.

What's kind of funny is that yesterday we decomissioned several servers and another array that were no longer needed. This array had been turned on since '98 (though the server it was attached to had been off for 2-3 years). Ten minutes after turning it off, we decided to turn it on just to see how many drives failed. Not a single one. We were thoroughly amazed.
