Default Can cats rob HP?

I'm curious if a malfunctioning catalytic converter can rob power? The torque above 3500rpm in our Z3 feels crappy compared to the 318ti, and they both have the same engine. But the Z3's converter is crap and I'm in the process of replacing it. I just wondered if the cat could rob power, and if I should expect the pep to return to its step after the operation.

yes indeedy.. anything restricting outgoing airflow can inturn reduce the amount of availabe power, due to the fact that residual airflow stacks up and causes pretty much poor acceleration yet you should be able to top speed the same

This is indeed the case, I can reach speed okay, but acceleration sucks. I'm talking GAS IT at 70 mph and count to 10 as I reach 80 mph. I'm not sure if it's collapsed or not because I'm not sure what that means! heh

It's loud as hell and I have an 07-28 error code. "Catalyst Effeciency" i think it is.

If your cat was collapsed you'll notice it at any speed not just high speeds. When my cat was gone it took me 20 seconds to get up to 30mph. Pulling onto the highway is a nightmare, throw on your hazards and pick up spped in the break down lane before you pull out.

And yes it would be quicker without the cat on the ti but you'd only gain 1-2hp if that.

I imagine if the cat got caught in the air intake, it could severly reduce your horsepower

Talking

I think you should check and see if there are any
small rodents in your CAT, i dont think the car
would run real well if there was a gerbil stuck
in your exhaust.

dude i'd just go have your CATALYTIC CONVERTER looked at, and it mostly like is going to need replaced.. if i remember right, you wanted to add a Supersprint system??

if so.. just go have from the converter back replaced and installed.. i'm sure that's what it is
