Default 95 ti wont start or crank

looking for some help, the car is a 95 318ti that I can't get to crank over. Battery is new, engine turns over fine if I jump the starter with a remote start button, fuses and fusible link are good, dash lights come on/everything works just when the key is turned nothing happens. There is no reason for an EWS problem but I tried bypassing it and I still am getting no power to the solenoid side of the starter. I tried reading the codes using the cel but all I get is code: 4321 which is not even listed. It has the factory/dealer Alpine alarm but I don't have the remotes (did not come with the car), does the factory alarm setup have a starter disable function? Is there a starter relay? What am I missing?

The Relay Could Be Bad. Jump It And See If It Cranks.

sounds like you may have a short on the solenoid wire, does anything weird come on when you try to start the ignition?

Nothing weird comes on when trying to crank, all the dash lights/gauges seem to be lit up normally. I found out that the code 4321 is the fuel cutoff which makes sense since I dont seem to be hearing the fuel pump buzzing. I am thinking of getting one of those Peake scan/reset tools so I can maybe get some more info than the obd is giving me.

bump.

i know. bad on my part that this is my first post in well over a year (maybe even almost 2). but i have the same problem as listed above. but i don't have remote start or factory alarm. and it's raining down here (merry christmas weather). so i didn't get to check out the starter/solenoid. i did check fuses and the basics, but to no avail.

anyone able to offer any insight? the sooner i can figure out what's the issue, the sooner i can work it out and get it out of that evil Best Buy parking lot.

I'm guessing as you have checked some things that they car does have juice in the battery? Didn't somebody else recently have an issue where the car would not start when it was raining or right after it was raining? I think the issue ended up being a clogged drainage duct on the passenger side by the firewall which was causing water to get into the ECU compartment...

You could also have EWS problems. Pretty hard to diagnose this problem over the internet if you can't even get out to the car.

Put power to Pin 11 on the diagnostic connector with a jumper wire with the key on. This will start the car if the starter is good. If not, there's your problem. If so, you can at least get it home or to a shop. If the car won't crank with B+ applied to pin 11, try doing that while someone is tapping semi-gently on the starter with a block of wood or long socket extension and a hammer. If it magically turns over, you can go somewhere, but you still need a starter.

seems like EWS or faulty key is to blame here. starts using vallet key and spare [plastic] key, but not the primary key that i always use. will keep you updated with what i find out.

The chip in the main key could be faulty or out of sync with the EWS. Look up how to resync the keys or take it to someone that can.

Uhhh, internet? I read it somewhere on my professional forum, but if you do it wrong or don't do all the keys at once you will be left with no working keys. I hesitate to dig it up for you for that reason. CMA, you know. My suggestion is go to a BMW pro or the dealer (amatures with factory manuals.)

Default Key ring antenna

U might try the key ring antenna, its only around 20bucks. It goes behind the key under the steeing column.
