Default Extra Tail Light Mod

I saw a post on bimmerforums that showed someone connecting the unused sockets in the rear tail lights and decided I would get a little more detailed with it...

Items Needed
Drill w/a 3/32" and a regular phillips head bit
4 small sheet metal screws
4 3/16"...

Not sure if its worth mentioning, but this light is indeed for the euro rear fog light, only one side was wired in on mine. the law here says it should be on the right hand side of the car (remember its RHD here in the UK) Although I've wired both as rear fogs, and added strobes inside (But thats another story)

I wonder if it would look cool to use just the inside part of the brake like the other 3ers and not use the outside part of the rear taillight. Thanks buddy for posting this!! I'll try this in a couple days

It is possible, I've done it and it works.

Is that with your headlights on? looks nice!

Yeah but Steve you don't want to blind people driving behind you. Would it do that?

Yes, thats with the headlights on.... If no one can see that they must be blind indeed. I just wanted to be like the rest of the line up.

I converted them to brake lights, and installed some ultra white bulbs., I don't have near the close calls any more...

did you put just bulbs in the sockets or did you have to do anything else to it?

I essentially moved the positive feed out of the outer most bulb socket and stuck a wire with a female blade connector to that end, then the other end went to the terminal connector where the wiring would normally go. Essentially I jumped the board. If you need a pic I'll snap one for you.

Al I would appreciate that, so I can get a general idea of how I will do that.

Here you go... you can carefully bend the tabs and fit the female blade connectors over them, nice tight fit, so there should be no issues. I haven't had any problems since installing them over a year ago.

Me and my friend just tried the tail lights mod and it was a success. Thanks for the posts and guide. The tail light lens was pretty hard to find

I just completed the tail light mod. It was super easy and only took 10min. I recommend using #6 self-tapping sheet metal screw bolt and a star washer. I also slathered on some liquid electrical tape on the parts where the ring lugs are. That part is close to the car chassis and I didn't want it possibly rubbing or shorting to the vehicle chassis.

Huge improvement. BTW, my car already had the bulbs there too.

Cheers!
