I have heard that the rear suspension of the ti is based on the e30's. Is this true?

From everything I have read, you are correct.

There is a guy I go to school with who owns a 2000-2001, I forget, M-roadster. He is from India and will be selling the car when he finishes school. I joke with him that I am gonna steal his whole rear end, and put it in my car

He better not park the car in a dark alley.
