My sister gave it to me after my A6 was totaled. I am sure I must have paid her for the TI but cannot recall money changing hands. The car was just sitting in her garage for years. The door handles would stick open for weeks due to 2 years of sitting in the garage without anybody touching it. I didn’t like the car at first because of driving the A6 for so long with all those bells and whistles but now I can’t imagine buying another car | | | 12-13-2006, 01:26 PM | #33 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Land of the Vikings Posts: 2,700 | funny story.. after owning 3 bmws i total, e30318i 2dr auto, e30318i 4dr, e30320i touring i decided it was time for the next one looking on my local netbase for possibles, i saw a compact, fully tech´d out in suprisingly good condition cosidering the rubish the danes try to palm off over her :no offence intended, unless you are who im talking about : after a few emails, we arranged to see the car. The address was in a very exclusive area, so my first assumtion was the car was owned by a spoilt little rich kid, and thrashed the bollax of of it. how wrong was i the guy couldn´t have been more nice, and the car spoke for itself. as we stood there looking at the two cars (my touring besides the compact), he said to me in a so non chalont manner "dont worry Andrew, i know you love your BMW´s" well, i felt a little freaked out as i had played the whole situation down, and not once let on about my love for the bavarian goodness.. then he said , " I guess you dont remember me then?, i work at the BMW Høgh dealership that you go to all the time! " well,.. fcuk me i though neadless to say i bought the car on that recomendation, and the fact his family owned 4 brandnew bm´s equating to nearly 200k in his drive. i even got a free inspection 1 __________________ Vin Number decode and Retrofit Pdfs Available Free ! One came up in Winnipeg (about 800 mile from Calgary). The picture looked good, I gave the guy a call we talked it sounded good 98 with 78,000km (48,000 miles). My brother lives in Winnipeg so I asked him to take it for a drive, he and a enthusiast friend went to drive it, said it was good. I had a mechanic look at it, and made my offer. Another friend was going back to Winnipeg for xmas, he was able to take a check to the seller. I flew from Calgary to Winnipeg on xmas day and drove back on the 26th. And have been loving it ever since. | | | 12-13-2006, 06:15 PM | #35 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: maritimes Posts: 1,433 | I wanted my OWN car very bad, i had had a sunfire that was giving to me by my mother and the novelty of that wore off very quickly, Ive been hard-core into cars for a little over a year before I got my license and the only thing I wanted in life was a nice car. I got my license the very day I turned 16 Early summer I decided the sunfire just wasn't cutting it, I wanted to stand out. So at 19 years old, I went to the bank with nothing but a solid job and no credit. The nice bank lady gave me $13500 to buy my very own first car, I was pumped! I worked at Irving (Sunoco to most of you guys in the states) and I always looked at the trader when I was working and seen a gorgeous 2002 Nissan Spec-V that was in there for a few weeks, I loved it before I knew i would own it... that was the car I wanted and I got a smoking good deal on it with practically every available bolt-on except a turbo. 6spd, rare red interior, gold NISMO wheels, pure sex(for a jap car) .. So I went for it... Unfortunately, after only having the car a couple months, I wrote it off cause this huge tree got in my way.. lol she was done for and I was completely crushed. In my beat-up body and bruised ego I started hunting with my new found insurance check. I didn't think I would ever be able to find a replacement, the spec-v is one of those cars you don't see very often around here and I wanted another RARE (i use the term loosely) car ... so i started looking on the trader and decided I didn't want another Nissan, or any other jap made car, and I certainly didn't want a americano made car... nor did i want a VW... so I came to the conclusion that the only car that could replace my beloved Nissan was a BMW. I saw a grogeous done up nice purple 318IS, low clicks, gorgeous car. I called up and unfortunately it was an automatic, so I stopped asking questions right there and then. THEN I stumbled across a horrible pictured 1998 BMW 318TI (the pic did it no justice).. So i started looking on the net and I just fell in love, ive always been a huge hatchback fan and the BMW never crossed my mind. So I called and started asking questions, everything looked great, sounded great, apparently in mint condition for 10,900. So on a whim, I met my buddy at work at midnight and told him we were going to New Brunswick, its about a 6-7hr drive or a 2hr drive+2hr ferry ride... we took the ferry and arrived the next day at 7am... I took the car to get it checked out and it was al perfect, still even had the factory overspray paint on the bottom, and I dropped the guy down to $9600 and drove away very happy. It was the best time we had all summer and the best time i had in my life, we camped out that night, partied, met some people in a neighbouring camp site and they allllllllllll loved my new BMW, me included __________________ 11/97 Base 328Ti | | | 12-13-2006, 06:32 PM | #36 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: lancashire, england Posts: 300 | my dad bought the ti brand new in 95 from a bmw dealer £20,000! rip off! had it for 3 years, then gave it to my mum who garaged it for 6 years only using it on fridays and sundays. then when i wrote my honda off my mum wanted a new vw polo so i had to buy it off her (i had no car)for £2300. she was given it! THE CHEAK!!! i was going to sell it on for more like, but anyway. after driving it for 2 months i couldnt let it go, the first thing i noticed was the handling and being able to take corners in fourth at high speed. | | | 12-13-2006, 06:34 PM | #37 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Austin, TX Posts: 250 | i found mine on Craigslist, a girl who just graduated form texas state university, was selling it cause she bought herself a new car as a graduation present, and im happy she sold it to me! my previous car had stranded me for the second and final time! the manager of the help desk where i worked was very much into cars (especially BMWs, i swear he changed them like he changed his underwear) and gave me a ride in his modded 4-cyl Z3. it opened my eyes to what BMWs were all about (somehow i had figured they were cush-mobiles for old men, lol). i had been looking at infinity G20s (they had some excellent deals at that time), but couldn't find one with LSD. my manager friend said i should look at the ti cali package, said he was considering one himself (which i kind of laughed at since he was trying out things like the 840). he went over to the dealer with me and i drove two, a sport in either alaska or montreal blue (death knell was the automatic trans) and the aqua metallic (really don't like the color) cali package in manual. he could tell immediately which one i liked as i rowed thru the gears i signed my life away and made the arrangements. i picked the car up on 12 october 1996, six days after my 26th birthday. it had something like 100 miles on it. it now has nearly 230k. i've eaten in it. i've slept in it. i've had sex in it. it's never left me stranded and even through times where i haven't had it serviced like it should be, it's run like a champ. if i had to replace it, i would likely just end up getting another one. __________________ 1996 318ti, California package, 267k miles current mods: bilstein sports, bavauto springs, e30 m3 LCABs, solid metal ball joints, bavauto RSMs w/reinforcements, e30 3.73 LSD & halfshafts, supersprint cat-back exhaust, turner rear sway bar reinforcements, IE poly subframe & RTABs + camber/toe kits, powdercoated e36 32x front calipers, sport mirrors, H&R 28mmF/19mmR sway bars, x-brace, auto solutions SSK w/poly bushing upgrade, BMW CD43 head unit, DICE HD Radio w/iPod integration and "stealth" HD antenna, staggered style 68s, orange electronic TPMS, leather arm rest, JT Designs metal undertray acquired and awaiting install: heated seat kit, cali top switch relo, lumbar support kit, park distance control kit, heated washer nozzle kit, m-coupe rear subframe, trailing arms, differential, and halfshafts, m-coupe front/rear brakes with master cylinder, under hood light kit, mud flaps, rear sun blind, auto-dimming rear view mirror, tilt steering wheel retrofit, apexcone 5000K HIDs with 55W ballasts 2002 X5 4.4 Sport Package, 53.5k miles Current Mods: e46 m3 steering wheel | | | 01-26-2008, 05:29 PM | #43 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2007 Location: Eugene Oregon Posts: 6,182 | ohh how i love the words of the wise!
