Unhappy Went for an alignment, got a new problem...

Today i took my car to bmw for an alignment, about 5 mins ago i get a call from them saying they cant align it because the rear driver's side wheel bearing has play in it.

Ive done a search on rear wheel bearings and got no info whatsoever. How do i fix my problem? Find someone with the specialty tool and see if i can borrow it, or should i take it to a shop (last thing i want to do) and have it fixed?

If you don't absolutely know how to fix something the right answer is always to take it to somebody who does.

The rear-end of the ti is very similiar to the e30. So these instructions should apply. My general feeling is that these instructions apply to just about any car that has IRS, I could be wrong though.

There is a write up in the knowledge base on how to do the bearings.

This article helps give me an idea of what to do. Im at work right now, and i want to know how to approach the problem quickly and efficiently when im able to get to it. I have a Bently book at home, does it also have the info on the rear wheel bearing?

Quick note from glancing over the article: WD40 is NOT a penetrating spray. Honestly, I've lost a little faith in Pelican today . . .

That is correct. To align the rear of the car you have to install eccentric rear trailing arm bushings like I have in my car. Unfortunately you have to have a compromise of what you want for camber and toe.

Upfront I think all you can do is adjust the toe unless camber plates are installed.

The rear can be adjusted if you buy a camber kit. I'm gonna put my BavAuto kit in when I swap out driveshafts.

Im just going to replace the bearings on both sides since i dont know when and if they were changed. The car has 192k on it, so i guess it will be worth it. Is there anything else i might as well do while im down there? The cheapest bearings i found for the car is 72$, is this a good price?

Changing the rear bearings is just painful enough that I would make darn sure I got GOOD bearings instead of cheap ones. At least make sure they
are german or US made. Heck I'd probubly go OEM unless the $$ were insane.

A camber kit is the eccentric rear trailing arm bushings.
