Okay, I'm sufficiently embarrassed. You can tell I haven't been under my car in a while. Oil change due! I have worked on most of the upper engine including the intake. Thanks Jeff. That's good news.

It gets easier after you've done it a few times, lol. I'd say i can have one out and in in an hour and a half if everything goes smoothly. I never took the intake manifold off. Like I said, if you have a really long extension with a swivel, you can have someone stick it in between the intake manifolds from up top while you guide the socket onto the nut from underneath. Once the socket is on the nut, tell them to hold it really tight and keep pressure applied so it doesn't slip off while you loosen the bolt from the other side of the bellhousing. If you get a threaded starter, the whole job can be done from underneath with exception of disconnecting the wires and removing the dipstick tube. When you're trying to actually manuever the starter out from under the car, it may seem like the transmission is in the way, but rest assured, I've always managed to remove the starter with the tranny in place. Just remember to rotate it 270 degrees and bring it straight down.
