Default What rotors would you trust?

I want to see what rotors would most people willing to use on their cars, or used! I am talking about vented (286*22mm). People who vote other could tell us what they would use.

Drilled rotors are failure waiting to happen.
(IMHO they crack all too easy!)

Slots perform the needed duty if you need them. IE gas venting.
Neither really help cooling! If cooling is your issue then you need
bigger/vented rotors as opposed to eh stock solid rotors like my
95 came with...

My .02 bucks worth.

I bought a set of calipers to replace the solid rotors, and i am in the search for the right performance rotor! I curently have Brembo drilled and yes, they are a failure. They offer only noise when braking from high speeds, and worse stopping distance. Most probably i'll get the ATE Powerdiscs, i just wanna see other people' experiences.

I have the Ate PowerDiscs on my E30. They've been great and drama-free. I'll probably be putting them on my ti next year. BTW, they're called Ate Premium One here in the States now and BMP Design has great prices on them.

I had warped stock front rotors on my '96 Active to replace. The price of Brembos were cheaper and carried a better warranty then OEM rotors.

Rotors from the dealer carry a 1-year warranty. Even though they're a wear part, they'll still replace them if they "warp." Nice if you're trying to figure out a front suspension problem.

That may have changed though.

They are now called PremiumOne" rotors.

I currently have OEM vented disks with 328/325 callipers. Work very well for my needs. Once they have worn through I may look into doing the e46 330 upgrade.

Edit: personally not a fan of drilled due to the before mentioned cracking problem. Disks with cast holes are supposed to be more reliable than drilled.
As for grooved I don't see any great advantage due to the increased pad ware.

Vented, cross drilled E46 M3 OEM Motorsport floating rotors here... Over 18 hours of track time on them and no cracks or major issues yet. I use standard zimmerman rotors on the rear.

The problem with the drilled units is there is no warning, When normal rotors start to heat check (Develop tiny radial surface cracks) they still have a few cycles left, when this happens on a drilled rotor they need to be scrapped because the cracks will propagate and throw a chunk off then the shows over. And all of the cars I work on eventually start heat checking if tracked. Sometimes it takes a lot of time because the brakes cool sufficiently,, on some cars they last 1 race weekend (IE T1 cars).

I helped trailer a Z06 with about 10K miles on it a few weeks ago, Drilled front cracked and threw about 1/4 of it through
the rim tire and fender. 12K in damage to the car because
it looped into the wall, he thought the rotors still looked "Good Enough"

I agree, I just think there is a difference in OEM "drilled" units from BMW or Porsche vs what you get from powerslot or zimmerman. I don't know if the BMW units are cast with the holes in them, but they seem to hold up pretty well. I see a ton of porsche's and M3s out at the track using comparable rotors. I'm ok with the upkeep and maintenance required.

I make sure to totally inspect them when I rotate the tires after an event. Honestly, I'll probably go back to a non-"drilled" floating rotor if I can find a comparable rotor for less. I figure that this rotor was designed to handle the heat put off by a much heavier car, so I don't think I'm pushing the limits of what this rotor was designed to do.

But for the extra cost I'm probably not seeing any benefit, why spend the money again? Especially if they have a shorter than blank rotor life span.

While my Ti has never been to the track, I do run the ATE powerslots for the 328 (with updated calipers) aside for a lot of brake dust (even from the HAWK HPS PAds) I have had no complaints.. though people do think the slotting looks weird
