Default cleaning ABS sensors

Anyone know the purpose of adding grease (Bentley specifies Molykote Longterm 2) to the ABS sensors when reinstalling? I get that adding it to the housing helps with sliding it back into the hole. But won't applying to the sensor itself cause more debris to stick to it, impeding its function?

Thanks in advance!
