Default Got hit today, may be a total loss!!!

Well I got my front bumper shaved off today by a 17 year old girl from NV. She ran the stop sign and I am counting my blessings that I saw her coming just in time and stopped otherwise i may not have been able to type this today.
I had my wife and 7 month old daughter in the car so it was really scary for me.
The girl said that she was looking for her glasses on the floor and did not realize that there was stop sign and she was going at least 35-40 in a 25 zone...

Anyways looks like my baby may be a total loss as teh front bumper is totally shaved off and the hood is also bent. I hope that the insurance totals it so that I can get another car that has not been in an accident... sorry baby!!!

I'll post Pics soon!!

When my 98 ti was totaled in 2000, I bought another ti.
It doesn't take much to total the car these days.
Good luck. Cars can be replaced. People can't.

Sorry About your loss. But you are fortunate to be able to walk away from that with your family. That is one of my biggest fears, losing a family member in an accident. Hopefully your insurance pays close to the actual value of the car.

Sorry to hear about the accident. These cars are so easy to total that even a fender bender can be enough to take it. Glad your ok.

Any accident you can walk away from is a good one.

Sucks about the car, but it sounds like it had a good run.

Well the KBB value on the car with excellent condition is about $6700, so I hope I get something close to it from Insurance... but that depends upon the insurance adjuster to see if they think that it can be repaired for less than that.
The front Bumper is gone along with both headlights, there is a small gash on the radiator and all the underlining. there were about three sensors along with the airbag sensor that are now hanging by the wires. hood, both fendors headlights so I think it will be totalled...

The issue will come as to what do they place the value at??? that will be a bummer since I will not be able to get a similar car for less than $6-$7k, not to mention I will inherit the problems of someone else.... My car although had many issues but never had engine issues.

I'll keep U guys posted!!!

Thanks for the support and kind words!!!

Cheers
Bob

Well the most important thing is you, your wife and baby are ok.

Funny thing is i almost got into an accident myself this morning. A box van blew a red light right when i was pulling out, when i saw him coming i slammed my brakes and he blew past me. In a way i wish i didn't stop...

This is a misconception. It's not what any insurance company values your car at. The law says that any kind of property's value is what the market will bare. It takes two parties; a buyer and a seller. So if a mid 90's 318ti can be sold for $20,000 where you live than that is the value. It's up to you to negotiate the value along with the insurance company. If you let them value it they will value it in the way that promotes their best interest over yours.

I've just been offered $6700+ (62 +tax) for my 96 ti with preexisting damage to the body. This is up from their first offer of $5900 which I rejected and argued until I got this offer. Next, I intend to argue that their offer is too low because I can not easily replace mine in the local market for that price, especially considering that mine had a stellar clean carfax history that started out as a lease car and then one owner. I didn't care about a little cosmetic damage to the body that I was going to fix. They have to replace what I lost. They can bring me a duplicate with the same preexisting body damage if they can find it, or they can bring me better.

If you don't like the offer, don't accept it. If you can't easily go right out and get a replacement for what they offer, then don't accept it. Just tell them to find you an equivalent car with an equivalent history and condition to yours. It's really in your hands, since they are obligated to replace it at whatever cost regardless of what offers they initially make.

Oh yes, and your claims process should be most telling as to whether you are with a decent company or not. http://www.badfaithinsurance.org/

Good luck.

Default Update with pics...

So the insurance company has not made it a total loss and they are going to fix it. The initial visual estimate is at $3800 so I do not know what will be the end cost.

I am in the market for a front bumper, Hood, both front lights and corners, Kidney grills etc..
