Some times I carry a double scull that is 35 feet long. It only weighs 60 pounds. Has anybody figured out how to put long things on the roof of a 3318Ti? __________________ Life is full of surprises | | | 04-15-2008, 11:43 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Saint Paul, MN Posts: 3,244 | Buy 2 Ti's and weld them together? __________________ My Former Rides 1999 318ti Alpine White, Cali Roof, Dinan goodies 1996 318ti Hellrot California Edition | | | 04-16-2008, 04:52 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2007 Location: Eugene Oregon Posts: 6,182 | duct tape... lots and lots of it! or a rack made for boats? __________________ -Josh Sold-1995 318ti, Club Sport, Hellrot Sold-1996 318ti, Active Model, Boston Green Current- 1995 318ti, sport model, schwartz | | | 04-16-2008, 05:26 PM | #4 | That's not Millpoint Blue Join Date: Apr 2005 Location: BNA Posts: 3,161 | __________________ Real men know how to SEARCH! Just balance the weight over the load bars and get creative with racheting load straps. Remember to use fluorescent tape at both ends (legal requirement in most states). __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | 04-17-2008, 04:16 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2008 Location: Omaha, NE Posts: 737 | Get a Cali-top Ti, open the top and put the boat, letting it stick out the top? That would be pretty funny looking though. But seriously... wow, I'm trying to envision driving with the 35-footer on top. That must be a lot of fun to deal with in a parking lot. What brand of roof rack to you have on your 535? __________________ Real men know how to SEARCH! Also, thule makes a rack kit for the ti __________________ 1997 318ti Schwarz II FB | | | 04-18-2008, 02:12 AM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: Quad Cities, Iowa Posts: 2,110 | Awesome, another sculler! I sculled for the Quad City Rowing Association for the last four years. Well I would think that it would be very possible to carry a single on a 318ti, I saw someone carry his Empacher and Croakers on his MINI Cooper S at Midwest Regionals a couple years ago. You would need just the bars of a rack, that go across the car length wise, basically the base part of the rack that the different attachments (bike rack, ect.) go on to. Just strap the shell down with boat straps the way you would to any trailer and your good to go. You wernt at Canadian Royal Henley this summer where you? I saw a 318ti there and tried to find the owner with no luck. __________________ "Drive Fast and Take Chances" | | | 04-20-2008, 10:21 PM | #12 | Junior Member Join Date: Jan 2008 Location: lowell, ma Posts: 16 | roof rack I use a Thule rack on the 535. I drove to the US masters nationals in Oak Ridge a few years ago. I had a double and 2 singles. I was ahead of schedule and drove a large section of the blue ridge parkway. I did the Can Henley a couple of years ago. I am a 55 year old rower. __________________ Life is full of surprises | | | 04-21-2008, 02:58 AM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: Quad Cities, Iowa Posts: 2,110 | Well age doesnt always matter, Ive had my ass handed to me by a guy in his 60s. Yeah just using the basic rack bars you should be able to haul a single and oars no problem, Im not sure where they sell em for the ti or if you could order them new but you should be able to get by just fine with that set up. __________________ "Drive Fast and Take Chances" | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
