There's a chance I may be moving to a colder state! That may help. Car is at 78k miles so I'll probably have to do water pump too.... ugh.

Default What did you do to your car today? v.2015

Less than $200 to do both if you can swing it. Add $25 for BMW coolant and distilled water. Way cheaper than a head gasket...

Swing by Sacramento, I'll help you or find Adam in your neck of the woods...

My problems are tools and knowledge....I have no real garage here and I've never done a water pump before.

Ok have been posting from my phone and unable to upload photos from tappatalk for some reason so now I finally can and will try to post them in order:

A few weeks back washed the salt off after a freak April snow storm

Parked on the side of the road last week to take a photo:

Then a few days back I got some new wheels for the car and mounted them (genuine LTW's staggered 17x7.5 and 17x8.5):

Then today I finally got the german pigtails to mount the ZKWs I got like a month ago:

And blacked out the red mesh grill:

Now it looks much better:

I will be driving out Friday night, and I'll be there all weekend. I'll also be staying a few days after Bimmerfest, so if anyone wants to have a meet up I would certainly be up for it!

Also, as always, more things I did today.

Installed clear turn signals because I broke the tabs on my ambers. Went and bought amber bulbs as well. Not totally sold on the look yet, I think it might be a bit much with the angel eyes. But they match the euro tails better, so I'll have to sleep on it.

Verdict is out on why my ti had to be trailered home. After poking around a bit, looks like my driveshaft finally let go. Trying to figure out what the next step is, supposedly there's a whole ZF swap coming up for sale soon. May go that route, since I'm just going S52 later this year.

But my new shift and e brake boots came in today.

Not the final installation, just mocked it up to see how it would look. If anyone is interested in getting a set, shout out to 2m Shift Boots (found here: https://www.instagram.com/2mshiftboots/).

After 3 weeks in the garage, my ti is finally back on the road. I blew a metal brake line 3 weeks ago and had it towed home. I was planning front brakes and repairing the parking brake that weekend anyway, so I added a new line to the list.

After digging around to see if I could get the full, pre-bent line (from the ABS pump to the rear axle) and learning that I likely could not, I decided to see if I could patch it. I poked my head up under the car and learned that the lines generally looked good, it had just rusted at one of the holders. I picked up a flared section of line, the proper flared fittings and a rental flaring tool, I patched the line up right. It turned out well, although flaring line while laying on your back isn't easy.

Got the front brakes done and replaced the noisy strut mounts plus the very cracked RF hose. When I went to fix the non-operational parking brake, however, I gave up. The problem is the backing plate was weakened and the notches holding the pins were torn out. I had bought a new backing plate and had planned on the semi-ghetto fix of cutting the old one out and cutting the new one in half to install it without pulling the hub. But when I looked at the very rusty bolts holding the old one on, I just knew I was going to break one or more off trying to do the job. I decided to pass on it and just continue to live without it.

Getting the brake bled was a bit of a challenge, or at least it seemed. I'm not 100% certain I got all the air out of the ABS pump, nor am I sure there was actually air in the pump. I've got good brakes and the ABS works, but the pedal is maybe a bit soft. I can't tell if it's really air in the system or my paranoia. I might see about having them bled when I get the alignment done.

Give it a week of use, then bleed them again. Nice job on all the work!
