What is the difference between the 3? In my sig you can see what I have, I believe it to be pretty much stock sport, several items were replaced by the previous owner. __________________ Silver 98 318ti Standard trans, Sport Package: 16" Stock Wheels, Foglamps, Sunroof, Heated Leather Seats, Bilstein performance shocks, OEM Sach's clutch kit, Dunlop SP Sport A2 225/50/16 tires, Alpine CDA 7894, Dual Rockford Fosgate 12" subs, Rockford Fosgate Amp, Leather Armrest, Replaced M44 engine with only 40k on it! http://www.geocities.com/evalha/bmwsmaller.JPG | | | 12-25-2005, 10:38 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Saint Paul, MN Posts: 3,244 | WTF 14 views and no replys???? j/k Essentially the difference between base and sport is in the springs, dampers/struts/shocks, and anti sway bars. The sport is about .5 - .75 inches lower, has slightly stiffer springs and thicker sway bars (+1mm rear, +2mm front). No difference between sport/club sport. Struts/shocks are accordingly shorter to accommodate shorter spring stance. You need to replace the shocks at the same time as springs if you lower it. You can freshen the handling by replacing the shocks w/ Konis, Bilsteins, Boge (stock eq.). The M3 is a different animal. No components will swap in except the front springs which are weighted for a 6cyl. The sway bars attach diff than our ti's. The rear susp is is a different design as well, shared with the MZ3 line. Some people have swapped in an s52 along with the complete M front suspension then swapped in an MZ3 rear. What's your goal? __________________ My Former Rides 1999 318ti Alpine White, Cali Roof, Dinan goodies 1996 318ti Hellrot California Edition | | | 12-27-2005, 02:35 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2005 Location: Virginia Posts: 247 | I donīt really have any particular goal in mind; I was just wondering about how a 318ti sport matches up to a M3 handling-wise. __________________ Silver 98 318ti Standard trans, Sport Package: 16" Stock Wheels, Foglamps, Sunroof, Heated Leather Seats, Bilstein performance shocks, OEM Sach's clutch kit, Dunlop SP Sport A2 225/50/16 tires, Alpine CDA 7894, Dual Rockford Fosgate 12" subs, Rockford Fosgate Amp, Leather Armrest, Replaced M44 engine with only 40k on it! http://www.geocities.com/evalha/bmwsmaller.JPG | | | 01-01-2006, 03:03 PM | #4 | Member Join Date: Mar 2004 Location: Piney River, Va, USA Posts: 52 | I have often wondered about this. Now looking at my M-tech I like the way the rear tires tuck into the wheel well. The fronts have a bit more space to them. Are there front springs that take this space away, or reduce it? If so how does that effect tire rub with 16" wheels and 225-50-16s? | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
