For some time the front wiper has been slow (meaning not the usual vigor), kind of lazy. This morning it tried for the last time and died, so no movement at all in any position of the stalk (Switch). The car starts fine (so battery is good). Rear wipers work and windshield fluid is topped up. After searching this site i am hoping to change the "wiper control module", hope i am on the right track in troubleshooting this issue. Could someone point me in the correct direction to the replacement procedure if available. thx. The question is Since the bitter cold set in the rear hatch lock does not want to turn anti clock wise to unlock the hatch, Yes i have WD40'd it and sprayed all kinds of oils in it, no luck. The same with the Driver side lock, refuses to turn anti clock wise to open but can lock the car (clockwise). I don't want to force it for fear of breaking something. The passenger side lock is just fine (both ways) and that's how i unlock the car now. The question is are these two related, as i did read a post where it did allude to this relation. 1996 318Ti, no remote lock (I use the key), no alarm, have not installed anything aftermarket. Thx in advance to your response. | | | 03-04-2009, 10:21 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: state college, pa Posts: 3,431 | Jiggle the key while turning. If that fixes your issue, your key may be worn. Search key with my username, there are a few posts on it. Wiper could be the motor (bench test on a 12V circuit) or wiring (test continuity and resistance). __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | 03-05-2009, 12:51 PM | #3 | Member Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: Ontario, Canada Posts: 67 | The solution for the Wiper issue was as follows, 1. Remove wiper arm (be careful when removing plastic cap to get at the nut) 2. Start engine and place wipers at full go 3. WD40 and assist the stub to turn As it turned out that there was rust and gunk build up between the windshield trim and the stub. After 10 mins of this it was back to normal. No "Wiper Control Module" replacement. Now for the key issue. Thx aceyx for the advice. The jiggling process did not work. I am thinking of getting a new key from the "dealership". | | | 03-05-2009, 04:21 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: state college, pa Posts: 3,431 | Test any of your other keys in the door first. Valet key (grey handle) will not work in the trunk. __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | 03-13-2009, 11:57 AM | #5 | Member Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: Ontario, Canada Posts: 67 | Update on key issue Received key from dealership and hatch and door(s) all work. So it turned out to be a worn out key ... sigh of relief | | | 03-20-2009, 06:29 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: state college, pa Posts: 3,431 | For future reference, don't use any wet lube in door locks. They attract and trap dust which expedites wear on parts. Graphite lube is what you want to use. __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | 04-22-2009, 05:26 PM | #7 | Junior Member Join Date: Jan 2009 Location: Miami Posts: 13 | Guys I am having same wiper issue. Mine is electrical. When I turn the car on (just the electricity .... radio/wipers are fine); but when I fully turn the key to ingnite the engine they turn-off just as the engine turns on! It's very strange. Thus I can drive fine; but without radio and wipers! Anyone with a suggestion, please? | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
