California top is an option in regards to a special type of cloth sunroof. As far as models go, they did make a California top edition, but that's not as common as the base, sport and active models. Base models are just that. Base, nothing more nothing less. Sport models came with sport seats, sport suspension, plastic sideskirts, and foglights. '96 and later sport models also came with Mtechnic bumpers and side moldings. Active models came with an on board computer(OBC) also known as a multi function clock. There's other small things like cruise control and LSD that were offered depending on the year and such, but these are the easiest ways to distinguish different models. | | | 02-27-2012, 06:59 AM | #5 | Member Join Date: Feb 2012 Location: Haines City Posts: 36 | Thanks sir, Now I understood more clear. | | | 03-15-2012, 01:06 AM | #6 | Member Join Date: Aug 2008 Location: The SLC Posts: 34 | Quote: Originally Posted by cooljess76 Sport models came with sport seats, sport suspension, plastic sideskirts, and foglights. Where on this site defines the different models (base, active & sport)? | | | 03-15-2012, 01:46 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Quote: Originally Posted by Wraythe My son has 06/95 318ti Sport with m-technic bumpers (front and rear), metal sideskirts and above items listed. This is old but outlines some of the differences. http://www.318ti.org/companion/index.php?318ti_us __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 03-15-2012, 01:51 AM | #8 | Member Join Date: Aug 2008 Location: The SLC Posts: 34 | Quote: Originally Posted by 1996 328ti | My sons car is stock and unmodified until we had it repainted last summer due to clearcoat peeling. Hell, the photo in the Club Sport brochure from BMW is not accurate. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 03-15-2012, 02:05 AM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2010 Location: Roanoke, VA Posts: 472 | No need to argue gents.
