Default Crankshaft position sensor

1999 318ti m sport

Car wont start, getting code for crankshaft position sensor most of the time (sometimes it reads camshaft position sensor). I'm trying to find the crankshaft position sensor which the book says is located on the left side of the cylinder block, but I cant seem to find it. Any tricks on how to locate it? Or any ideas about what's wrong with the car?

The sensor is located at the rear of the block.
