Question Cooling System for BMW TI 318

I am trying to find out the name of a part in the cooling system. It is on top of the block under the fuel rail & or manifold. It is plastic & has one small coolant hose attached to it.The part broke while the car was @ idle, the car has not ran hot or had any other problems until this. There is a little over an inch of a nub left & it has one groove left in it.I can get to it without having to take every thing apart to replace.I am wondering what made this do this in the first place & if I am able to reattach the hose as is would it hold.Nevertheless @ this point I need to find out what this part is.I am grateful for any & all help.

Here's a couple threads for you.

Buy the BMW version of the part. Aftermarket versions are not molded correctly and could cause future leaks.

I have been looking for the answer to this since yesterday.

I can't believe what has to be moved in order to get to this. There is a
little nib a little over an inch long I can get to without taking anything apart. However I am not sure if that would hold, seeing how it must have had a lot of pressure build up to break this part.A friend of one sons has offered to do it for $30- $40 & I think that is what I'm gonna do let him do it,as I am unable to do it myself.

I guess I am old school but,If this part would have been metal, like the thermostat housing this would not of happened. Again thank U & have a GREAT DAY ~*~

You're absolutely right...the parts should have been made of metal. I think that every member of this website would agree.

It is easiest in my opinion to remove the intake manifold. 18 or so nuts and bolts, plus taking off the airbox, MAF and fuel rail. You don't have to disassemble/remove the throttle body off the upper intake.

I'm assuming you have a M42, M44 isn't any harder except for the Y-connector at the back of the head.

PM me and I'd be happy to walk you through it if you need a hand.

BTW, when you get the water pipe, make sure it comes with a replacement o-ring. Separate parts....
