Default Picked up a DASC Ti

Hi,
I've been lurking on here for a few weeks gathering knowledge that lead to my Ti purchase. I'm going to pick it up tomorrow. I'll post some picks when I get it home and cleaned up.
cheers,
dug

It runs quite well and has a ton of power. The cams kick in around 5k which is a wild feeling on top of the SC boost. Has a similar kick to an early S cam in a 911, but with a totally different sound.

The only thing letting it down is the awful exhaust drone at cruise between 3200-3800. So you basically have to go 60 or 80 unless you want to go deaf.

I'm open to suggestions, but I'm leaning toward a Remus.

Dug;

Very nice car... I drooled over that one on numerous occasions. The original owner had it for sale last year, but the price was out of my budget.

As for the exhaust, I suspect that there is no resonator between the cat and muffler. That would cause the drone you are experiencing. I have a 2.5 single pipe exhaust with the same (I believe) cat, a small resonator and a Borla turbo muffler. It is very discreet and mellow, but flows great and opens up under heavy throttle.

Any way, congrats on your purchase and enjoy your new ti!

Hi guys,
Thanks for the compliments. Price was high for a Ti, but really sub-10K for a car with these mods was a deal. Not to mention there isn't anything close on the market that's a hatchback with RWD. I'm super stoked.

There is a resonator on the exhaust. I think the sizing is just wrong for this engine. I measured the in cabin level at 75 mph at 96dB with the Decibel iPhone app (which I have compared with a RadioShack dB meter and it's accurate enough.) The sound turns sweet again at 4K+, if I could cruise at 80mph without getting a ticket, I wouldn't bother to change it.

Here are some shots of what's there.

Cat and weird exhaust hanger. Could this be the problem? That solid looking rubber piece connecting the exhaust to the subframe which is on poly bushings. Maybe I just need to go to a muffler shop and get a more standard flexible hanger added.

Unsure about the weird hanger, doubt that's causing the drone. For what it's worth, I posted pics of my exhaust setup in this thread;

http://www.318ti.org/forum/showpost....&postcount=166

The whole setup was recommended to me by a race prep guy, and it is perfect for me.

Thanks wolf. My setup looks pretty similar to yours in size at least. I don't think the hangar is causing the drone, but it's more likely to transmit a lot more of the noise into the cabin if it's solidly coupled to the chassis. Easiest thing to test will be to just remove it temporarily. I'll make sure the rear hangers look ok before I go for a drive that way.

cheers,
dug
