Question 1996 318ti California Package Roof Repair?

Hello,

The power roof (California Package) on my 1996 318ti has stuck, fortunately in the closed position. When I press the button to open it I can hear the motor turning (sounds fine) but the roof does not open.

Does anyone have any information on how I can go in to repair it?

Thanks.

Sorry to hear it.

The best place to look is probably on RealOEM since it shows the exploded view. Also the Bentley wouldn't hurt either.

Thanks. Found the part number on the diagram and am now trying to track down a place that sells the part.

Thanks. Found a very relevant post with the same problem. I took the motor out last night, opened it up and found one of the drive gears no longer "driving". I'm looking now for a replacement motor.

If I were in your shoes I would replace it with a one-touch open motor/switch. I believe Chris at www.understeer.com did it- he mey be able to source the part for you in exchange for the info, help, etc.
